It is not only delicious but also has a lot of benefits we should know. b. Topic Revelation: Today I will tell you about the benefits of watermelon and its significance in Vietnamese culture. c. Relevance Statement: Watermelon has come to our world for more than 6,000 years ago. According to Live Gourmet webpage published in 2011, “watermelon is chief of this world’s luxuries, king by the grace of God over all the fruits of the earth.” d. Preview: Today, I would like to talk about watermelon’s history, how it represents Vietnamese culture, and its significance to me and society. 2. Body: a. Artifact Description: Let’s describe a little bit about watermelon and how it came to my country. i. Description: Watermelon comes in many various sizes, shapes, and colors. It weighs pounds and is full of sweet watery juice. ii. History: There is a legend about a young man, Mai An Tiem, got expelled to an isolated island because of his lack of gratitude to Hung King. One day, there was a white pheasant flew from the west and dropped down some strange seeds. He picked them up and planted them. Then, he became wealthy because of selling these delicious fruits and named it as in “western melon,” which is watermelon now. a) Transition: I just told you about watermelon’s history, and now, I will tell you its meaning. b. Cultural Representation: Watermelon means a good luck and plays an important role in my culture. i. Culture: In Vietnam, the red color is considered as a symbol of integrity. The ancestors believe that it can exorcise ghosts, drive away misfortune, and bring prosperity. Therefore, the watermelon’s red interior is considered as one of the lucky symbols in my country. ii. Use: Watermelon is a must-have fruit to worship the ancestors in every family on the
