As technology has already advanced so fast and far, permeating so insistently every part and moment of our daily activities, from our work, study to our leisure time that we cannot help becoming more and more alert to possible dangers that might happen to us. One of the dangers that we now experience is cyberbullying.
Do you know how the cyberbullying is vandalizing young generation’s life?
In the status quo website (?), it is claimed that 70% of internet users in the world are teenagers. Over years, more and more teenagers spend their time online time after time. These teenagers associate internet to the world of freedom, a utopia for them to do whatever they want, be whoever they wish. But they do not realize that this virtual world is a very dangerous place. Chilling statistics show that 24% of young internet users suffer from mental distress, psychological trauma and most tragically, some end up committing suicide. All these occur in the world of social media, where 'silent killing' or 'cyber-bullying' lurk for unsuspecting teenagers.
Today, I am not just speaking as the representative of Sutomo One high school, but also as one of the victims of cyber bullying. I am going to tell you about my own experiences and share with you my effective ways to prevent cyber bullying, but before I start, let us first understand deeper about cyber-bullying. To that extend, I am going to answer four questions that are commonly asked regarding cyber bullying: what is cyber-bullying? who are involved? when does cyber-bullying become a serious concern, why does it happen, and most importantly, how do we prevent cyber-bullying?
1. First, what is cyber-bullying?
Cyber-bullying is a type of ill-treatment towards targets by means of information technology. Victims are tortured, humiliated, threatened and attacked repeatedly and incessantly through cellphones, emails, and the social media.
