Although, Searle accepts that the speech act is both meaningful and has conventional force, he analyses the dimensions of the speech act differently. The major difference is that Searle is postulating a propositional act which is subdivided into a reference act and an act of predication. In addition, he also speaks of the (incomplete) speech act of predication which Austin did not mention. (ibid.: 93). Therefore, the evaluation of Austin and Searle's theories will illustrate the advantages and disantages but also the gaps of its theory.…

With Austin's and Searle's conditions implemented through speech act, with the former focusing on social context and the act of uttering and the latter focusing on the uttering itself, the linguist Paul Grice (1975) established the cooperative principles in order to link between speech acts theory and pragmatics. I have noticed that the President failed to mention the Freedom of Information Bill, which was in the Congress for so many years and up to now is not yet passed. This must be one of the priority bills that must be passed to prove to the whole nation that this government is really aiming for transparency. Another thing that is noticeable in President Aquino’s SONA, even from the 1st to the 4th is that he acknowledges the achievements of his cabinet members. He does not grab the credit for himself, even though he can do it, because after all he is the President of the Philippines.…

Change could not be done overnight either six years is not enough but even if the president is strangled by these truths he is still persistent to continue what he started; whoever people he might meet head-on in the process, whatever cost may it take. This was the one my contemplation of the opening statement of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) held last July 22, 2013 in Batasan Pambansa Complex. His very promising statements captures the heart of the masses for it gave confidence for the many that the president himself is ready to combat corrupt public administrators and it pledged hope for the citizens of the country, an undying hope for a enhanced change and a better country. The fourth years of his administration has started and so let’s scrutinize what news he brings about the state of the country.…
