Speech By Monika Lewinsky The Price Of Shame
There could be many different social repercussions that come from public shame, some might be positive but most have a negative impact on the person. A clear example of a negative reproduction is in the speech by Monika Lewinsky The Price of Shame. In the twenty-two minute talk, Monika clearly described the negative affects of public shame and how it can affect your social lives. A very important quote that she said was " I was then swept up into the eye of a political, legal and media maelstrom like we never had seen before... this scandal was brought to you by the digital revolution" (02:44). Another quote she said was " This rush to judgement, enabled by technology, led to mobs of virtual stone-throwers" (04:14). These quotes both show how

613Kim Kardashian West removed all doubt on whether she is pregnant or not. She posted a side view selfie of herself, posing nude. Radar Online, August 11, 2015 reported that Kim posted her nude selfie on her Instagram page. And for anyone wondering if the picture was faked, she claims it is not Photoshopped or taken with filters. It was just good lighting. It seems that Kim can’t win and she doesn’t feel sexy with this baby, even with the sexy clothes she wears. She has gone from people saying you’re too thin to you’re too big with this pregnancy. Kim explained why her pictures look so different. In the pictures where she seems to have a smaller waistline, she said they were taken usually in the morning before she ate. Then, in the pictures where she looked large, she said they were taken after she had eaten. She dispelled the rumors that she had a surrogate carrying her baby as well. She said, “I think you all know me well enough to know I would document the process if I got a surrogate. Everyone’s body is different, every pregnancy is very different! I’ve learned to love my body at every stage! I’m going to get even bigger & that’s beautiful too! I’m blessed to even be pregnant & even luckier to not have preeclampsia as far as I know, so I don’t have the swelling issue this time. They…

I am impressed by Sojourner Truth’s wisdom and the bravery it took to speak those words, at such a tumultuous time. As a woman; particularly, a Black woman, I felt a sense of pride as I read this speech. I don’t think I could be prouder, if I were one of Sojourner’s descendants. For all I know, I may very well be, as 13 of her children were sold into slavery.…

“ 1988, I lost my reputation and my dignity. I lost almost everything, and I almost lost my life.” Monica Lewinsky is a woman that was affected by public shaming. Public Shaming is a consequence that is served when a human makes a mistake. Often it is a crime that is legal and people still get persecuted. The three sources that support my claim is the scarlet letter, Monica Lewinsky, and Justine Sacco’s issue. These sources display negative effects of public shaming towards the people is unjust. Public shaming causes cruel punishments, depression and it should be left in the past.…

The session that I attended was Dolores Huerta speech, which was very interesting. Dolores Huerta was born on April 10, 1930, she is a labor leader and civil rights activist who, along with Cesar Chavez, co-founded the national Farmworkers association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). Huerta has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for workers, immigrants, and women’s rights. She is truly a leader, working tirelessly to help the poor and women and children. She talks about war, genocide, Mass incarceration, and poverty. During her participation in non-violent protest she was arrested 22 times trying to make changes in society. Her main question was what can we do as people to solve things in the world? Putting political issues on politicians. She talks about how change comes from the bottom, people have to be responsible because at the end of the day no one is going to make changes for us we as people have to make them for ourselves.…

The way from shame to wholeheartedness goes through vulnerability. In the words of David Foster Wallace: “What passes for hip cynical transcendence of sentiment is really some kind of fear of being really human, since to be really human [...] is probably to be unavoidably sentimental and naïve and goo-prone and generally pathetic.”…

Colin Powell life is interesting because he was the first African-American Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. The commencement speech Powell gives at Howard University show his willingness and determination to overcome challenges. Not letting his race put a limitations on what he could or couldn’t do, shows that anyone can do anything and be anyone in this nation. It also shows how times have changed from the past from African Americans being slaves to running president and doing great things. Powell speech showed me in an encouraging way that you don’t have to be big or popular to do great things.…

Lately, the top story in the news day after day, months after months have been about William Jefferson Clinton, also known as Bill. Who could blame them, there is nothing better than a story out of the ordinary, especially one with presidential status. For the past months he has been the most talked about figure, being the essential topic for news, talk shows, late night comedy and even going as far as the big screen. Talk about 'Primary Colors' and 'Wag the Dog.' What has gotten to me the most however, were the constant flow of Republicans, along with a few Democrats, who just want to say how shocked and embarrassed they are along with the people of the United States.

The president had not just become the most talked about figure, but also one history had ever seen, so far that is, breaking the record and becoming a topic of conversation and debate 'twenty-four seven.' The people, who I think were most affected by this crisis and feel very sad for, are the Republicans, since they had lost severe amount of sleep over the president's bedroom crisis. They had to perform their republican duties by shocking our brains with the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

We had to ignore the rest of the world news and its issues while they plough through the valley of lies, abuse of power and something they called high crimes and misdemeanors.

At first we listen and listen and listen but eventually got bored. Not a whole lot of people felt comfortable smelling someone dirty laundry which was aired for a very, very long time.

I personally got tired of this never ending story a very long time ago, since I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Clinton. I love the guy and no I am not talking romantically. I love Mr. Clinton as a teacher and most importantly as a role model. There is a story behind how Mr. Clinton earned my respect, which had nothing to do with his cute looks, but rather his character.

From what I've seen, he is a…

    Speech on Corruption

    • 334 Words
    • 2 Pages

Greetings and good-after noon to all of you. My speech today will address the topiccorruption and especially political corruption. Everything in this era revolves around the decisionsmade by powerful people in society, particularly governmental people and politicians and many of them resort to misuse power for personal gains such as money, luxuries or even more power. Thismeans that corruption could make you gain a lot but it also means that you deprive certain people of a lot. This is why in certain countries, we see a gap that is widening between the poor and the richand certain economies are falling, as in the united states economy. Corruption only leads to thedestruction of a persons morals and ethics and would increase peoples hatred towards that person. Asignificant example on political corruption is when our countries in the middle east- throughcorrupted people- facilitated the way for the occupational troops to invade Iraq and when theyignored the cries for help by Palestinians in Gaza and other cities. It is time for people to start paying attention to these issues and understand that we must fight corruption to end these miserableissues upon our people. It is therefore that corrupted people must suffer the consequences incurred by their actions and should be punished according to the Islamic system. But what if the peoplewithin the system are also corrupted? Then I believe that change comes from within us if we arewilling to step up to these people and by taking initiatives, sacrifices and perhaps try to influence people and future generations to put pressure in the face of corruption. One of the ways of applying pressure and drawing attention to this case was shown by a reporter a few days ago who threw a pair of shoes at the united states president. Although I liked the idea but other methods such asdemonstrations are proved to be effective methods and as I've stated earlier, its all about takingsacrifices and initiatives towards these…
