Throughout her speech Kelley compares and contrast different states child labor laws. Kelley states, “In Alabama the law provides that a child… not work longer than 8 hours”. Here kelley creates a general idea of how long kids have to work. She does this to represent the hardships the children are facing. Then she continues and says, “In Georgia there is no restriction whatever!” Emphasizing the workload the children have Kelley sparks anger within the NAWSA. As she compares the workload of New Jersey to Alabama, “New Jersey took a long backwards step”. New Jersey repealed a law that required children to stop working earlier. This is very clear how they took a step backward because with this law repealed children must work more which is not…
History has been known to repeat itself when society does not learn from its past mistakes. In the novel World War Z by author Max Brooks, we are thrown directly into a world of utter chaos, mostly stemming from a rejection of scientific perception and insight.…
The boys are taking over the camp! Lately the camp has been pretty hostile, and that includes me getting thwacked in the head with a shovel by one of our convicts. I’ll be darned If by next week the boys have taken over this place.…
Adolf Hitler entered Kroll Opera House on the first of September, 1939, as his troops prepared to invade Poland. Propaganda was a major facet of Nazi Germany’s success and this speech reiterates the plight of Germany, Hitler’s beliefs on who was to blame for their failing economy, and what must be done about the crisis. Like many of Hitler’s speeches, outside of those in physical attendance, nations all over the world had tuned in via radio where these speeches were translated in real time. This event was known as a Reichstag Extraordinary Session, a council meeting called upon by the President of the Reich or a majority of the council members. Beyond the live audience, English translations of the transcripts of this speech and others like it have been collected by Yale University through the Avalon Project. This primary source is a vital window into the beliefs of Hitler’s regime and its supporters, as well as evidence of the corruption and propaganda presented during World War II.…
Our government first declared their independence on July 7th 1776 by signing the Declaration of Independence. Since 1776, our government has had the same basic foundation, which makes the United States the 4th on the list for oldest government. Our government was founded on the Democratic ideal of “All men are created equal.” In 1791 James Madison our fourth president, wrote and published the outline for the Constitution. The Constitution consisted of seven articles and ten amendments. Since 1795, seventeen amendments have been ratified in the Constitution. The most recent 27th amendment was finalized in 1992.…
John F. Kennedy promoted change and sought to have peace. The structure of Kennedy’s speech is also parallel. He uses a repeating grammatical structure to create a rhythm that evokes the audience’s attention. His address is empowering to the american people and he was very clear on his view of america. Kennedy called upon his fellow Americans to start getting involved in the government and to start serving their country and he invites a new era of peace and cooperation. He calls upon Americans for cooperation, sacrifice, and idealism.…
I completely agree! I thought Elie Wiesel’s speech was very moving! How often do we turn our heads from the hurt and suffering? I know that I am sometime uncomfortable with watching people suffer but I often don’t do anything about it. I know that there are hungry people in different countries. However, I don’t send money to organizations that will feed the hungry. I want to be a very generous person, but we all have our limits. Especially, since I am in high school I have a hard time saving money and also giving money. Even though I can’t give a lot of money I can volunteer my time. I believe that a lot of what Elie Wiesel still rings…
In 1852, the leading citizens of Rochester asked Douglass to give a speech as part of their Fourth of July celebrations. Douglass accepted their invitation.…
I would like to inform you about the biggest heavy weight fight that occur in our history. The two contenders were the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Both parties had a lot invested and prepared well for this bout. Who would strike the first blow? In 1957, the Soviets set up a knock-out and launched their first blow with the Sputnik. The Soviets continue to pull ahead of the scorecards by launching the Sputnik II with a larger payload and a dog named Laika. The US responded by launching its own first in January 1958 called Explorer I. The Soviets send another out a couple of more blows, in 1959 with the Luna II and on April 12, 1961 they set up the Vostok-1. Their first manned mission with cosmonaut Yuri…
Just yesterday, we got thrilling news that the Russian Army, also known as the Red Army has attacked, entered, and conquered concentration camp Buna within Poland. The Red Army has been trying to infiltrate the concentration camps to stop the mass amount of murdering that is currently happening within those camps, death by gas chambers, the enormous crematoriums, or just shooting the Jews. Not only has the Red Army invaded camp Buna, they have also saved many Jews who were in the infirmary. There was also news from the leader of the camp Buna invasion, Marshal Edward Rydz-Śmigły, “We’d also seen more of the SS officers and the Jews who were captivated running away, I told the others to just stay back and help the Jews in the hospital as they were very badly hurt”. Meaning that the Nazi’s are not…
Colin Powell life is interesting because he was the first African-American Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. The commencement speech Powell gives at Howard University show his willingness and determination to overcome challenges. Not letting his race put a limitations on what he could or couldn’t do, shows that anyone can do anything and be anyone in this nation. It also shows how times have changed from the past from African Americans being slaves to running president and doing great things. Powell speech showed me in an encouraging way that you don’t have to be big or popular to do great things.…
I find it amazing that Dwight Eisenhower went from a poor little boy to rise all the way to help win World War Two and become a two term president who ch aged the world forever. I hope you enjoyed hearing about this remarkable man who changed the world in so many ways and I hope you understand a little better of why I picked Dwight Eisenhower for my…
It is one of the most troubling times in Bernicia and everything is turning upside down. The king has just been killed and the tribe of Bernicia along with all of the surrounding tribes are in chaos. I, a mother of six, have became a widow because my husband has been killed in war, which is common during these times. Since most of the men in the tribe were murdered, the general in our tribe drafted some of the women to be shield maidens and I was one of the ones that was drafted. I am now having to teach my oldest daughter to care for the rest of my children because I have to fight in the war that is ahead. Today has been three days since my husband was killed. Our tribe leader has decided to move what is left of our village Eastward and the…
Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank was born June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She was the second daughter of Otto and Edith Frank. She had a sister who was three years older than her, Margot Frank. Anne and her family were liberal jews, which means they did not practice all of the customs and traditions of Judaism. They lived in a community of Jewish and Non-Jewish citizens of different religions. In 1933, Mr. Frank opened a branch of his business in Amsterdam, Holland. Because of Adolf Hitler’s anti-Jewish decrees they had to relocate. Otto Frank believed that his family would finally be safe from the Nazi aggression, but who knew in a few years everything would change.…
