Introduction
SpiceJet is a low-cost airline based in New Delhi, India. It began service in May 2005. Earlier known as Royal Airways, it is a reincarnation of ModiLuft. SpiceJet marked its entry in service with Rs. 99 fares for the first 99 days. There were 9000 seats available at this rate. It followed it up with a Rs. 999 promotional scheme on select routes. Their marketing theme is "offering low 'everyday spicy fares ' and great guest services to price conscious travellers". It was voted as the best low-cost airline in South Asia and Central Asia region by Skytrax in 2007. No deadly incidents involving SpiceJet aircraft have been recorded so far. It flies a fleet of modern aircraft and has maintenance support from KLM and state-of-the-art technology from reputed firms like Star Navigation, Russell Adams and Tech Log.SpiceJet Airlines India operates a single aircraft type-the Boeing 737-800. It has ordered 5 new Boeing 737-900s. Spice Jet India currently flies to 14 destinations which include Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Goa, Pune, Kolkata, Jammu, Srinagar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Guwahati, Varanasi and Jaipur .

1993-1996: ModiLuft era
The origins of SpiceJet track back to February 1993 when ModiLuft, one of India 's first post-deregulation airlines that was launched by the Indian industrialist S K Modi, in technical partnership with the German flag carrier Lufthansa. The airline project was started in February, 1993 by S. K. Modi, Ashutosh Dayal Sharma and Kanwar K. S. Jamwal and on 5 May 1993 took the first flight from New Delhi to Mumbai. The airline actually started operations within three months of its conception – a record of kinds in itself. It maintained very high standards in flight safety, ground maintenance, and on-time performance, owing to a strong support from Lufthansa AG.
ModiLuft was the only airline in India to fly a three class configuration compared to others airlines, It had a First, Business and an Economy Class and an incident
