Spiritual Gifts
Introduction This essay will show the meaning of spiritual gifts, which are supernatural gifts that God has blessed Christians with. These gifts can be used for the purpose of everyday life, edification of gifts, and to usage and development of spiritual gifts. When individual obtain spiritual gifts there are steps Christian need to fully explore in each gift that they may have. The Bible speaks on twenty-three gifts but this paper will speak on the ministerial gifts of faith, healing, prophecy, knowledge and understanding, and the interpretation of the tongue . Spiritual gift is a Greek word used in relation (relation to what). A spiritual gift is charisma meaning a free and undeserved gift, unmerited favor. Spiritual gifts are not natural talents, but are special Spirit empowered abilities for service to the body of Christ. A spiritual gift is a God-given capacity through which the Holy Spirit supernaturally ministers to the body through the channel of the spirit of God; who supernaturally touches the lives of other people. Spiritual gifts are characteristics of Jesus Christ that are to be manifest through the body corporate just as they were manifested through the body Incarnate. The spiritual gifts as defined in 1 Cor 12, enable an individual to witness to others as to the validity of Christ by means of supernatural workings in ways that could only be done by Christ. Christ commands us to continue witnessing for Him; spiritual gifts are ways that ministers can continue to witness. This is one thing we see with Christ as he ministered here on earth (Acts 2:22). All throughout Christ’s ministry he went about performing miracles, healings, demonstrating faith, prophesying, and discerning spirits. This was a great testament and authentication of the validity of his ministry. Furthermore, many gifts followed the apostles with their ministry as well.

Part One of Elmer Towns’ Concise Bible Doctrines introduces Christian theology by outlining the key pieces of the doctrine to help the reader understand Christianity and faith. Towns begins by saying that the main purpose of Bible doctrine is to communicate the gospel to the people at a point of need. Every man has the same need because every man is cut off from God. Man is born with a sin nature, and because he is less than holy, he is isolated and alienated from God. Death is imminent for everyone, but God communicates through the Bible that through Jesus Christ, man can be saved. The word “gospel” means “good news.” It is the responsibility of every Christian to reach out in relationships to the unsaved in sharing this news, and to other Christians in fellowship. Christians are called to seek God, and study the Bible to learn to know Him better, and worship Him always. Proper worship of God requires faith; the source of which is the Bible. Doctrinal faith is the beginning and the test of Christianity. If our statement of faith is wrong, than our faith is misplaced. Our faith must be grounded on correct knowledge of God. However, intellectual knowledge of God is not enough. Emotional expression and volition are equally important. The Holy Spirit acts on behalf of Jesus Christ to plant faith in a Christian’s heart. He indwells us, and helps us exercise our faith daily. We can grow in our faith by studying God’s word, seeking the Lord, confessing sin, actively following biblical principles, and constantly communicating with God. Faith is ultimately a reliance and trust of God, and the Bible teaches us to rely on Him for everything.…
