Spiritual Gifts
After spending time in class talking over the list of spiritual gifts and learning more about each I feel like I can better decide what my gifts are. As we went over them I felt that my gifts are encouragement, wisdom, service. I feel like these gifts are the ones God has given to me. Encouragement is the gift of seeing the glass as “half full”. It is being able to find the positive spiritual and emotional outcome of a situation. The gift of Wisdom is the gift of being able to work through situations. Service is pretty much what it seems it would be. It is the gift of putting others first and wanting to help those who need it rather than worry about yourself. Faith is the gift of trusting in God and knowing he has the best for you in all areas of your life. The gifts that God has given to me is for a purpose, just as everything else he does. Although at this time in my life, I may not know why He has given these gifts to me, I trust that when I do discover the reason, I will continue to praise Him with these spiritual gifts God has provided to me.
Encouragement and wisdom has always been something I’ve had, but once I accepted Christ, it just became clearer. I have always been the friend in a situation to help those who are struggling and want to see that everything is worked out for the best. I have always wanted to make sure that those I care about are happy and that they get along. I am always the friend that will hear each side and work through the problem and try to find a resolution that can be good for both sides. I feel that wisdom and often goes along with encouragement. Wanting to work through a situation and making sure that if someone needs encouragement in a bad time of their life, wisdom can very easily go along with that. Knowing the best way to work out a problem between people and knowing how each side feels is important for everything to work out for the best. I always feel better too knowing that my friends and those I care about are happy

My second most dominant Spiritual Gift is Exhortation. This means that I like to encourage people, work wel with others as well as one-on-one and have a “get it done” attitude. I agree with this Spiritual Gift for many reasons. As I was reading the analysis it talked about how I need to be careful not to interrupt others. It was very ironic to read as I tend to jump into conversations while others are speaking because I am excited about the topic. There was one part that I disagreed with. It said that I am very “serious-minded, orderly and able to explain how to apply God’s word.” I feel that these are area’s I am weak in and need to work on.…

Narratives in North America, 1880-1910 and Griffith’s both present interesting insight into health practice, and the beliefs that surround it at the turn of the 20th century. While Opp’s essay is a look at Protestant faith healing, Griffith is looking at fasting and masculinity. For two seemingly different topics taking place in the same era, there are a surprising number of connections and parallels. Though looking at slightly different aspects of health and belief in the late Victorian era, the relationship between the two is evident in both of them. This is seen through the firsthand testimonies of believers in faith healing in Opp’s essay, and through the…

In addictions counseling, the spiritual life review could be used as a definite resource to implement better services for the elderly. Older adults comprise one of the fastest growing demographics in the United States today, and are also described as the most spiritual and religious of all the age groups. (Lewis, 2001, p. 231) However, counselors need to be careful when it come to intermingling religious and spiritual beliefs to their clients. An effective client must be able to address issues dealing with the mind, body and spirit. The counselor needs to ensure that their views are not being expressed to the client. When a person reaches a certain age, they focus more on death because of the number of close friends and family members that are dying that may be close to their age. The elderly may be inclined to divert more towards spirituality or religion to cope with those circumstances.…

I have no idea what has happened for this person to be in this situation, so why should I determine what kind of person they are? Even if they are not homeless or needy, the same concept applies. These are some of the areas where I learned to rethink the way and attitude I approach other people who I am serving.…

I find that my strengths include achievement motivation, school engagement, and reading for pleasure. I'm strong in these areas because I'm a naturally competitive person and find the need to compete with myself to do better then how I did before. My school engagement is because I have a natural interest and enthusiasm for learning new topics. Reading is a strength because it helps me understand people better, it allows me to look into the world and mind of someone new and get and understanding of why they are doing what they are doing. Although I hold these strengths I am most definitely not a perfect…

Are all spiritual gifts equal in the eyes of God and what are their purposes to exalt God or witness to unbelievers? In 1 Peter 4:10 it states, "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God". (1) In 1 Corinthians 12:4 it states, "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit." (1) These two verses imply the thought that all gifts are the same in the Spirit and they are made to serve others, not exalt God or ourselves. In 1 Corinthians 12:4, there are many gifts and only on Giver, this Giver may bequeath various gifts, which create a variety of effects. (4) This brings up yet another point, someone who doesn 't receive the power of spiritual gifts through out their life time, yet they have witnessed the Holy Spirit and have a close personal relationship with God, are they not as close to God as someone who has experienced spiritual gifts?…

Wicca, Witchcraft, and Paganism are not synonyms, they mean different things. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, paganism is »a religion that has many gods or goddesses, considers the earth holy, and does not have a central authority« (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Paganism, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/paganism). Paganism as a term describes religions, that are not Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The word »pagan« had a pejorative meaning in the past and the people practicing that kind of religion didn't call themselves pagans. In Slovenia, for example, the word paganism and pagan still have a pejorative meaning, therefore the term describing that kind of religions used is usually »ancient religions«.…
