I was at my desk on the 10th floor of the World Trade Center when the terrorist attack via plane occurred. The power went out and mass confusion ensued as my coworkers and I grabbed some medical kits and made our way to the stairwell to head out of the building. As we exited on the street there was concrete falling from the sky and people were scattering in chaos with all types of injuries. We established a triage station with our medical kits at a nearby high school and rendered first aid to those in need. Then, another plane crashed into the second tower causing us to evacuate to safer location. Our field office supervisor designated a baseball field on the Westside highway a couple blocks north of the trade center complex and asked us to pass on the message. We attempted to use several modes of communications to have our coworkers meet at this rally point to ensure we were all accounted for. Cell phones just didn’t work; as soon as you dialed a number you just got a fast busy signal. We finally found a pay phone that worked and we called another office that was able to send a text message to all NYC based employees of the rally point. Once we got to the ballfield we checked in and divided up into groups to search for our unaccounted for employees. Some of us had our government issued hand held radios and we split them so each group would have communications. My group was tasked with securing an evacuation point. We ended up at Chelsea pier and procured a boat form the US Park police and notified all personnel. We made several trips back and forth shuttling our employees to New Jersey via boat. Once in New Jersey our coworkers from this district had vehicles standing by to transport us to our residences. This was a spiritual learning experience that aided in my personal and professional growth. All of my coworkers, some that I had met
