Spirituality, Religion and the Supernatural Religion is an organized system of ideas about spiritual reality, or the supernatural , along with associated beliefs and ceremonial practices by which people try to interpret and/or influence aspects of the universe otherwise beyond their control (Haviland p. 312.)Spirituality, concern with the sacred, as distinguished from material matters. In contrast to religion, spirituality is often individual rather than collective and does not require a distinctive format or traditional organization (p.314.) Spirituality, Religion and Supernatural aspects are all either related or linked to each other in some way. There are similarities, differences and deep personal meaning and thought to each concept. There are spiritual and religious beliefs. Both provide people in cultures with social and psychological needs such as the reduction of stress, and if any means possible to develop spiritual hope and or belief. Religion is looked upon when furnishing the ideology of of common purpose and values that support the well being of the community. In my eyes religion is based on a series of beliefs and hope upon something so meaningful to them. I am of Catholic descent, and believe, worship and pray to God, Jesus, and the many saints associated within the Catholic religion. I believe that one day when I die my spirit will continue on to Heaven and join those who have also passed in my lifetime. Spiritual beliefs are almost the same thing. As far as believing in something with spiritual means, religion and spirituality can be linked in these terms. However, in the early 19th century idea was given that modern science would be able to completely replace religion by showing people the irrationality of their spiritual beliefs and and practices. I highly disagree with this concept because if we did not have spiritual beliefs, practices, or things that
