Spite Of This: Critiquing The American Dream

America has always been known for having the American Dream. The American Dream is something the majority of people desire. However, is there really an American Dream? People come across many complications while trying to acquire the American Dream. Their desire of success, wealth, freedom, and happiness. Many individuals come from various locations to be able to enjoy the American Dream. In Spite of this, individuals will criticize them in countless ways because of their hope for the American Dream. Living in America, doesn’t mean you will have the American Dream. It just means you believe that you can have the American Dream. Wealth, freedom, success, and happiness is what makes the American Dream, but when in reality you can’t have all that living in America.
The United States is easily one of the most traveled countries in the world.
People from all over the world travel here in search of a better life. America is given the impression to be a country everyone should and want to live in. White picket fences and friendly neighbors, the picture seem perfect. Recently this picture perfect concept has made me doubt its existence. For example, how can there be an American Dream if America has more incarcerations than any other country in the world? Also how can there be an American Dream if someone who is diverse, doesn’t get an equal opportunity compared to a white individual? If you come from somewhere else and try to have the American Dream, you will not be treated or looked at equally. Our own government gives us reasons on why immigrants, foreigners, and/or different races shouldn’t come to America. Lately, the ideas and thoughts that our government and the partial white Americans come up with. Shows there isn’t and shouldn’t be an American Dream to rely everything
on. There are several reasons why society thinks there shouldn’t be more diverse people coming into the United States. One of the main reasons, why closed minded people think there shouldn’t be minorities coming to America is because of our current economy. Our current economy is very important, it’s like the backbone of our country. Our current economy is very important in maintaining the belief of the American Dream. People say some minorities shouldn’t come to America because of the lack of jobs. However, when there are jobs available people argue that minorities are taking the jobs from Americans. People also argue that minorities get more help from our own government, which they believe their tax money isn’t being well spent. If our economy was good, there wouldn’t be as numerous excuses for keeping minorities out. Which would mean immigrants, foreigners, and different races would be able to live their own “American Dream”. United States has something the majority of people desire and that’s the American Dream. We shouldn’t rely most of our wishes into the American Dream. People do say that if you work hard and efficiently you can earn the American Dream. However, that would only imply to most white individuals and the few lucky minorities. The American Dream is why most people come to United States. They come for the opportunity to have something they couldn’t have before. Looking at this particular subject closer and in more in depth. It has made me realize that there isn’t an American dream for most people. The few people I do believe that do have the American Dream are the already wealthy, famous, lucky, and popular individuals living in the United States. There are too many people living in poverty for me to believe in the American Dream. Although, I don’t believe in the American Dream. There will always be someone getting ready to move to America for their own “American Dream”.
