Therefore, the media should reduce the amount of violence that is in children television shows. Rethinking the plots and making shows more educational but fun at the same would leave a more positive affect on the young children watching. The violent media displayed to kids can influence the decisions they make in everyday life. According to the American Psychological Association, “Violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children teens who watch these programs”(APA,249). In other words, the American Psychological Association believes that these violent programs have a high influence on children and young teens. These aggressive behaviors exhibited by young children can cause bodily harm and also emotional harm for children. Normally, you do not see young girls participating in the same violent acts as boys do . When young boys participate in war play they do it just for fun not thinking of the possible consequences it might bring. According to Diane Levin., “Most young boys look for ways to feel powerful and strong.”(Levin,254) In making this comment, Levin urges one to see the importance in gaining a sense of safety. Parents should teach their children that they are safe in their presence and should not have to look for ways to feel strong. In Levin’s article “Beyond Banning War and Superhero Play”, she uses a young boy names Jules as an example. Jules thinks that because you are a superhero, then everything you do as a superhero is automatically acceptable, which may not necessarily be the case always. Young children need to understand that just because you see a character who is beating up someone for a good purpose does not mean that it is okay for you to repeat these actions in public places such as school or anywhere else for that
