Deborah Brandt explains about sponsors of literacy in “Sponsors of Literacy.”She defines sponsors as “any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy-and gain advantage by it in some way”(Brandt 46).Also, as people typically consider it as powerful figures who bankroll events or smooth the way for initiates, sponsors of literacy can be labeled such as concrete or abstract figures that can assist people of initiates (Brandt 46). Nowadays technology such as animation, computer program, developed devices have helped people to enhance their literacy. First, animation has advanced ability of reading and writing with generating interests to people who did not have any interest to learn literacy. Additionally, computer programs revise and help people to perceive errors that people cannot notice when they write on paper. Furthermore, devices such as Kindle and I-pad which are lighter than one book facilitate people to read with convenience anywhere and anytime. As children watch these animations, their vocabulary enriched. In the past, there were no high quality animations for education and no proper environment for learning with excitement. Therefore, they learn slangs or idioms and their language was limited. However, currently as they watch animations and hear correct and clear standard language, they can develop their literacy. For example, when I was fifteen, I came to the United States of America as an exchange student. At that time, I could speak only basic words such as "Hello,""How are you," and "Thank you." I had hard time understanding native-speaking English and how to speak English with correct grammar and words. Through this time, my host family helped me a lot by speaking slowly, watching cartoons with my host brother after school helped me the most. This is because when my host family explained one word, they had to use different words that meant the same, in order for me to understand the meaning whereas animations showed what it is with pictures and acts entertainingly. The latter one was easier for me to understand fully and taught me from vivid graphic when I could use that word with what situation. Likewise, children can increase their literacy as watching animation which is better than only listening to what their parents
