Spontaneous Human Combustion
Spontaneous human combustion has been around since the 17th century, but has gained more attention after Charles Dickens wrote a book called Bleak House in 1853. In the book he killed the alcoholic junk merchant, Mr. Krook, with spontaneous human combustion. After the backlash he got, Charles defended his case by showing 30 other historical cases of spontaneous human combustion. Although his claims were weaker than he said the evidence was still there. So what is SHC? SHC is when a human bursts into flames with no outside fire source and virtually no fire damage is caused to the place where they were except for black scorch marks.
Most documented cases show that the victims are mostly overweight and alcoholics, with the majority of victims

Hurst was also struck by Vasquez’s claim that the Willingham blaze had “burned fast and hot” because of a liquid accelerant. The notion that a flammable or combustible liquid caused flames to reach higher temperatures had been repeated in court by arson sleuths for decades. Yet the theory was nonsense: experiments have proved that wood and gasoline-fuelled fires burn at essentially the same temperature. Vasquez and Fogg had cited as proof of arson the fact that the front door’s aluminum threshold had melted. “The only thing that can cause that to react is an accelerant,” Vasquez said.…

These thoughts or connotations and many others have crept into the minds of many whilst they were gazing at the lively bursts of the fire as it dances. Many feel a sense of safety from the warmth given off by the fire; others only see it as wild and uncontrollable. Although, all of these connotations and many more exist, yet, the main context in which fire is used in “Barn Burning” is as a way to represent Abner’s lack of power through self-expression.…

Victims are generally unresponsive to the enviroment that surrounds them and they are immobile. They are rigid, stiff and unwilling to move. Occasionally they may have peculiar movements such as grimacing or assuming bizarre postures (Jones, Buckley & Kessler, 2006). They may repeat a phrase or word that has been spoken by somebody else and they may engage in some restless ongoing activity for no reason or desired outcome. There behaviors often revolve around restless, purposeless and sedentary behaviors and their risk of exhaustion, malnutrition and self-inflicted injury is high (Jones, Buckley & Kessler, 2006).…

This past Thursday we went to the Columbus Museum and listened to a lecture over the preservation and restoration of vast amounts of woodlands by controlled burning of the land. At first I didn’t know that this was an actual way to restore woodland back to a controlled state, but as I listened to the speaker throughout his presentation it was becoming clearer that this is also the most effective ways. The two main points I learned were that there are intentional controlled burns and that it is actually good for the environment an ecosystem surrounding the area.…

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, “Native Americans are five times more likely than other ethnicities in the United States to die of alcohol-related causes” (NIAAA). Natives are quickly dying of alcohol related deaths such as liver disease, drinking and driving, suicide, and homicide. Alcohol related deaths are sometimes intentional with the inner desire to die rather than live and face reality. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder is also a widespread problem throughout the community. According to the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Center for Excellence, “Native Americans have some of the highest rates of fetal alcohol syndrome in the Nation.…
