With kick off being an hour earlier than Norton were used to and not having a full compliment of players to choose from they warmed up and lined up for kick off with both managers on the pitch.
The team started well ensuring that that strength and commitment were at the forefront of the style of play being brought to the table; such style was optimized by the valiant efforts of Wilson and Jason, winning everything and ensuring Norton were well protected at the back. The center of the pitch was an unplayable surface so large parts of the game bypassed the midfield for offensive possession. Kunle and Karl were used to great affect, which produced a firm shot from Kunle with the keeper gathering well. Max worked tirelessly, chasing down all dispatched passes. Norton were caught on a break and found they were looking at a 1-0 deficit. This was something that the team had not faced this season and the remainder of the match would be a test of character to see how they dealt with such an instance.
With keeper Mel and midfielder Marty arriving late Norton now had a squad to rotate with. Mel was introduced.
From the off again Norton were trying to adapt to the conditions with Karl coming central to become more of a ball carrier. This came to great effect with the team closing down a string of loose balls this caused Wanderers to place the ball in their own net.
Half time whistle was blown and Norton gathered around to discuss their issues. The mood was somewhat subdued until it came to prominence that the mandatory Norton war cry had to been produced this game. The team gathered, hands raised above our heads and from the top of Tobrise’ lungs came the 1,2,3 NORTON!
The team re-entered the field of play with a combative spring in their step. Game started and shortly into the second half Marty had a moment of madness and gave a penalty away. Captain Callis ordered Norton to be on their toes for the rebound…his thoughts were not in
