Is this rhetorical question? Ha but to answer the question, I am a big sports fan. I grew up playing sports and watching sports. My favorite sport in my heart of hearts is basketball, but I am a diehard football fan. My favorite team in football is the Carolina Panthers and I am still having nightmares about the super bowl…
On a night when the Oklahoma Thunder desperately needed an offensive boost from injured forward Keven Durant, the Boston Celtics went into Oklahoma and took care of business with a solid 100-85 victory. Guard Marcus Smart led the Celtics in scoring with 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range. He also added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal while only turning the ball over once.…
The University of Connecticut’s Women’s Basketball team has become an icon for collegiate women’s basketball, and collegiate women’s sports in general. Since Geno Auriemma became head coach in 1994, the team has won eleven national championships, including the ones from the last four years. They won eleven in twenty-one years. The women’s basketball team has the record for most consecutive wins in college basketball, with ninety wins. They have won over twenty regular season championships. Still, the tickets to see this legendary team play cost less than tickets to see a pretty good, but not iconic, UCONN Men’s Basketball team play.…
The Dallas Cowboys finished last year season with a 12-4 record. Almost coming out of Training Camp without any major injuries to a key player’s defensive back Orlando Scandrick tore his ACL/MCL last week. Scandrick is out for the season. Even though losing Scandrick is tough I still believe the Cowboys will be fine because they have depth at the defensive back position, and upgrading the pass rush which the defensive backs won’t have to cover wide-receivers for so long. With the additions of Greg Hardy, Byron Jones, Randy Gregory, Corey White, DeMarcus Lawrence developing his body into becoming a force at the left end, defensive position, and Tyrone Crawford is looking to have a Pro Bowl Caliber year the Cowboys finally have depth at the defensive…
There were numerous of insanely and outlandish commercials during the Super Bowl of 2015. Most of the commercials would have to advertise sex, kids, animals, or randomness in order to appeal audience. Then there are ads like the Dodge commercials. It sends a message that needs to be sent - respect wisdom. Social media can be cruel and demeaning especially to elderly people. The Dodge commercial that aired during the 2015 Super Bowl started off pretty pleasant, but that took a major turn quickly! While the elderly featured in the clip were giving a valuable advice to the audience, they then become a little aggressive. For their Super Bowl XLIX commercial, Dodge decided to recruit some pretty awesome centenarians to drop some wisdom on all of our collective heads. Why? Because Dodge is 100 years old too.…
Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July. The observation took place at a local park in Pasadena that Sky frequents quite regularly for play time. We arrived at the park at approximately nine fifty in the morning and left the park at ten thirty. The park is about five acres and located in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena, CA. It has a playground, basketball courts, handball courts, and plenty of open grass and trees which make for a calm and peaceful setting. The park was fairly empty with a few adults engaging in morning fitness activities, and the playground was empty. The temperature outside was about ninety…
The seriousness of sports-related concussions will have harsh repercussions where the impact of being hit forcibly repeatedly can lead to severe bodily harm where quality of life is affected. Although the topic of concussions related to sport injuries has garnered much attention in today’s era where safety is promoted to protect the athlete’s health. However; this was not the case in the early 20th Century for athletes who suffered brain damage from the result of playing football. (Harrision, 2014) stated “years before the first medical study of football injury was published, it was obvious that this new American game was dangerous. Even though the players and public knew of the dangers of football, unfortunately; some athletes did not report…
Thesis: College athletes who are facing an injury during their season should be assisted by a consoler or a sport psychologist for the overall welfare of players (because they are at risk of a psychological breakdown.) A conflicting argument could be that athletes are always receiving special treatment and should be treated the same as any other college student. My main audience that I would be speaking to would be sport organizations, coaches, student athletes, and just students not participating in a sport. Ways to persuade my audience is by giving evidence of my argument and also by using my personal experience. I currently play baseball while attending college and have suffered…
The appeal to tradition, also called argumentum ad antiquitatem, is a commonplace fallacy that posits that an idea is correct simply on the basis that it is similar to a past or present tradition. We see it everywhere: in government, in schools, in music, in the workplace, and even in sports. The book Moneyball by Michael Lewis is largely about this idea, where Lewis argues that even if something has been done traditionally for many years and worked, the traditional way is not necessarily the most efficient way. In the case of Moneyball, this idea refers to the player scouting aspect of baseball. In my experience, I have found time and time again that Lewis is correct is his assertion: the traditional way is not always the best way. Blindly following tradition can lead to an incomplete understanding of a problem and, as an extension, an incomplete response as well.…
I have joined many extracurricular activities in school such as, Cross Country, Track, National Honor Society and UIL math competitions. From all this clubs I have been the leader for Track and Cross Country. I was the captain for track when I was in 10th grade also I have been the leader for cross country since my junior year. While leading this teams there were some obstacles we overcame as a team. We was not fast enough to win anything during my first year of leading the team, we was not as famous as we are now. We did not had many supporters in the arena we compete in also our own school kids did not knew us, all they knew were the football team, basketball and soccer team. This really upset me because I and my teammates deserved to be…
Football is a very fun sport that invalves tackling, pushing, and hitting. Most of the time football is fun just from playing ruff (tackling, pushing, hitting). Kids who play football are always to play games like bull in the ring and oklahoma drills which are very contact drills, and so is football. Now, coaches are thinking about having a limited number of hits in practice. But most players disagree with that statement because football is all about hitting. If they use limited number of hits, then they will take away the fun out of football.…
Another counter argument is that paying these student-athletes would take away the title “college athlete” and makes them into a “professional athlete”. Although this does pose a great argument, the fact of the matter is that these student-athletes are not getting what they deserve as they devote the same amount of time a full-time worker applies to their job. In order to call them a “professional” is if they were making a full salary, these students do not need a full salary, they just need a little extra to help them get buy and to insure safety if they lose their scholarship. Ryan Riddle, former professional American Arena football defensive end who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders, discusses the difference between college and professional…
It’s inescapable, it’s everywhere, (click) the t.v, (click) magazines, (click) public transport, (click) music, (click) sports, (click) games and (click) most devastatingly it has penetrated the minds of our generation. (click) Behind every great man, there's a great woman. If you agree with this, think to yourself, why are we behind the men? Why does being a great woman have anything to do with having and supporting a male companion? This attitude is very popular, yet it is (click) the subtle lie of the era. My fellow friends, I stand here in front of as a young women, soon to be exposed to the real world. (click) I don’t want gen z, to be victims to the trend of undermining the value of us women and furthermore using us to be candy’s for…

Here’s an easy question, who was the division one NCAA football national championship last year? If you said the Alabama Crimson Tide you are correct, sort of. Yes, Alabama did defeat the LSU Tigers 21-0 in the National Championship game, but some other teams could make a case for National Champions as well. According to the end of the year Associated Press Poll, Alabama was not an unanimous number one. LSU received one first place vote and Oklahoma State received 4 first place votes. Oklahoma State finished up 3rd in the final poll, after defeating Stanford in the Tostitos Fiesta bowl. Division 1 College football is the only sport that does not have a tournament or playoff system to provide a true national championship.…
