Michael Christian Martinez, the first Filipino figure skater to qualify in the Olympics ,The 16-year-old Martinez qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Russia .
Even though that the Philippines didn’t have the winter season, it didn’t stop Martinez to pursue his dream to compete globally in figure skating.
Martinez is currently in the United States to train for the biggest sport event of the world in 2014. Martinez will be competing with figure skaters from all over the globe hoping to make history in the Philippines' maiden voyage to the world of international figure skating.
In 2012, Martinez won third place during the World Junior Figure skating Championship in Minsk, Belarus. Among his competitors was a former Olympian that is used to compete worldwide.
“We are very proud to have someone like Michael Martinez to be able to represent our country in the winter games,” said Manuel Veguillas III, president of the Philippine Skating Union.

Mark’s love of athletics began at a very young age, his main focus being football. However, when he was a sophomore in high school, he incurred an injury that prevented him from playing the sport that he loved so dearly. So he turned to wrestling and the rest is history.
