Spring Breakers
Recently the so called “artistic” movie spring breakers and came and to say the least it was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The movie is supposed to be about four girls in college who are tired of their ordinary lives so they seek finding themselves on spring break in Florida. The movie is supposed to display these girls as innocence girls trying to find themselves through sex, drugs, and money but find out that those are not the things to go to find themselves.
The actors and actresses chosen were chosen because they would shock the world at what they were doing in the film. They choose Selena Gomez (Disney channel star), Vanessa Hudgens (Disney channel star), and Ashley Benson (Abc family star). The things these squeaky clean girls had to do was not only inappropriate but some things were taken to a whole another level. It was not that they were topless or making out with each other they would sniff cocaine off of each other’s boobs. Honestly I get there are trying to get that shock factor but really that is just honestly gross no one needed to see that. They were trying to make it look sexy because these actress are beautiful but instead it made them look trashy, sleazy, and stupid.

Selena Gomez in the film was made out to be the baby in the group so in many scenes she was scared of what was going on around her when they meet James Franco’s character. Her acting was probably one of the worst displays of acting I have seen in a long time. It is not the Disney channel anyone step up your game. The same for Ashley Benson did not believe for a second that she was the character she was supposed to be portraying. The only one who I believed in this movie was Vanessa Hudgens but she was not acting she was just being herself

Stereotypes of all racial ethnicities have been a major issue not only here in the United States but as well globally. Many people tend not to realize that latinos/latinas in the film industry have to settle for roles that have always been associated with their cultural backgrounds. In the “Latinos Beyond the Reel” it not only showed what latinos in the film industry have to deal with on a day to day basis just to have work. In many cases they are forced into these roles because the role of the hero or character that has the happy ever after endings are typically played by predominantly white people. The roles of greaser, villain, house maid, sexy latina, and criminal are all of which have become the norm to latinos for decades. The film does a wonderful job of showing the reverse side of what lations feel and their thoughts towards these stereotypical roles. It just goes to show you how media can influence people's opinions and views on a ethnic race that has stuck for more than a century.…

Regardless of what the plot was intended to be, it is difficult to not be distracted from the message in the film by the poor acting. The lines are not particularly good that the actors are given for their characters, but they are spoken in such a way that the viewer is not as aware of what they are saying, but in the strange manner they are…

One of the biggest fears of college students is gaining an excessive amount of weight. As most UMass students know, the school’s dining commons are currently ranked second in the United States by the Princeton Review. When I began attending school, the term “Freshman 15” was a common term that was often spoken about amongst my friends. The term “Freshman 15” refers to the amount of weight which is expected to be gained in the first year of college because of the easy access of food. I always looked at the “Freshman 15” as a myth before college. I wanted to learn more about UMass Amherst’s food. I wondered if it could be possible that UMass could be ranked as having one of the best dinning commons in the country and also have healthy…

Thus, it’s way more fun to knock this film than to pick out the brief (and I do mean brief) glimmers of light that barely manage to sneak through the dark void that is this unfunny monstrosity. Who the more diminishing actor is - out of Zac Efron, Adam DeVine, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza, is clearly a roll of the dice. The acting is exasperating - as is the general film itself. There’s nothing special about the plot, and if there’s only one meaningful thing to take away from this film - it’s that this is a perfect example of how to make a dumb, artless movie. In the end, I implore you to avoid this film - even if you - as I did - thought the movie trailer looked funny. You’ll be doing yourself and your pocketbook a monumental…

The article “Don’t Mourn Brown V. Board of Education” by Juan Williams discusses that it is now time for something greater in effect than what the Brown V. Board of Education can offer us today. Brown V. Board had a huge part in civil rights movement and got Americans to think about inequality in society and in education. Assimilating students does not insure that students that are black or Hispanics will not drop out high school nor does it guarantee the narrowing of performance levels. In fact schools have become more segregated while the nation has become more diverse. Schools continued to fail even with Brown V. Board of Education was enforced. The parents began to become dissatisfied with their children being pulled out of neighborhood schools and instead being bussed to different schools further away. The Supreme Court realized that using school children to address segregation in school was not going to fix segregation in society. Busing students began to be replaced with magnet school and charter schools and eventually the Supreme Court began to believe that the fourteenth amendment was better served by treating children as individuals rather than as tools to enforce segregation.…

Would a year-round school schedule improve students’ academic performance? There are many debates on whether schools should extend their educational calendar to a full year. While year-round school schedules have their share of benefits, there are also negative outcomes. People often claim the more the better, but what really matters is the quality, not quantity, of education. Year-round schooling should not be organized because students may develop health issues, wouldn’t be prepared for college, and students may miss out on other opportunities during the summer.…

It is quite difficult to summarize all of the positive things that this film delivers to the watching audience as it is all directed and acted out very nicely but I would have so say that the main positive thing about the film is that what it does and what it represents about these teenagers and about their school, it does so in a way that is not so realistic but entertaining in which makes the movie and story appear to be believable as if could actually happen with all the extra back story that the movie gives these characters as we learn about their own individuals personalities and preferences. Besides my main reason I’d just like to point out that in the 80’s you really couldn’t get a…
