The War of 1812 was a war that lasted for two years that helped the United States to firmly and officially establish its independence. After finishing with the concern of France, England turned its attention over to the United States. At first, the United States did not want to resort to war and fighting (Doc. B) but rather sort out their issues economically--because England had seized all ships that did not stop in the British port before heading to their other European destinations, Congress passed the Embargo Act and then the Non-Intercourse Act, allowing trade with all nations except France and England. Then, England refused to allow this trade to occur, so America had to resort to war. The Northeastern Federalists were not in favor of war, but the Republicans ultimately won the majority vote in Congress to declare war--the War of 1812 (Doc. G). During this war, America was very concerned with gaining control over land in this country as well as in Canada, but at the same time Americans needed to defend themselves against their strong British enemies. Either way, America had to abandon its position of neutrality (Doc. C).…

    A. Duncan Cameron, an employee of the NWC, appoints Cuthbert Grant as Captain of the Metis and gives him the task of driving the British colonists away. Through burning buildings, destroying crops, and firing rifles at night, the Metis are successful in driving the British out of the Red River Valley. In doing so, the Metis began to recognize their rights and fight for their land. Within the year, the Metis were in conflict with the British again. Robert Semple, the new governor of the colony, confronted Grant and the Metis people. Seeing this ahead of time, the Metis divided into two groups and surrounded Semple and his men. The end result was a victory for the Metis – something that is considered to be a defining moment in Metis history.…

The first part of self assessing me was pretty important because it was a sum of my whole lifestyle in one. Giving me an overall look on what I should change or if I should even change any of my habits. My smoking score was a perfect 10, which was not surprising at all to me. My alcohol/drug score for this was seven points because I do drink. The score for my eating and exercising habits were perfect because I do a good job when it comes to eating right and working out on a daily. My stress control score was an eight, but I do understand why. I do know that I stress to some extent. My last score was safety and the score for that was a nine. I think my life is pretty amazing if you ask me.…

The description of the four types of personal orientation to others, named as competitors, individualists, cooperators, and equalizers is another way to understand our unique preferences and how we respond to others (Greenberg, 2013). This exercise indicated an individualist disposition with cooperators coming in second. Since the overall concern or motivation for an individualist is the outcomes related to self, the question now is regarding job motivation. How does this relate to the current job choice since this exercise ended in a self-revelation unbeknownst to me? Regardless of ones personal orientation, effective communication has key elements, which is accountability, professional, brief and sincere (Marques, 2010).…

Senior year was my most arduous year through high school; it demanded complete focus, dedication, and most importantly, my time. I was taking advanced classes such as: Calculus, Physics, and College Level English. It was challenging for me to fulfill my duties as a National Honor Society President, and at the same time, trying to excel in these classes in order to maintain my academic standard. It was difficult because I was ranked number one for our senior class of 2015, and I needed to maintain that rank as there were other bright and smart students in our class. However, I set goals for myself throughout the school year and strategically planned it so that I had my priorities in line. Careful planning, together with the support and help…

The difficulty with most timed writings is that most people feel they don't have the time to get their thoughts in order. In a short period of time one has to develop an outline, and a thesis, or main idea before the writing begins. If the essay is to be productive, one needs to have some idea where one is heading with the essay. Although it may only take a few minutes to organize your thoughts, you still have to remember the clock is ticking. Timed writings are going to continue to be a part of my academic reality, so learning to deal with them comfortably is important. This self-evaluation portfolio introduces my timed essays and different writing styles. In PE1 there were several questions that needed to be addressed, but overall the essay evaluated why dishonesty and fraud are serious problems within the scientific and medical communities? In PE2 I had to evaluate a statement in regards to scientific discovery. There are several reasons why both essays needed self-evaluation, and one reason was to look at my areas of strength.…
