Nora. That our life together would be a real wedlock. Goodbye.[She goes out through the hall.]

Helmer[sinks down on a chair at the door and buries his face in his hands]. Nora! Nora![Looks round, and rises.]Empty. She is gone.[A hope flashes across his mind.]The most wonderful thing of all--?
[The sound of a door shutting is heard from below.]

A Doll's House Sequel
Act VI
[Nora is outside ,walking. Its lightly raining and its night time. Shes rethinking everything that just happened]
Nora. What just happened? I left my family, my friends,[she hesitates] my husband... What do I do now? [a moment passes] Well the first thing I should do is get in a cab and go talk to Dr.Rank.

[Nora gets in a cab]

Cab Driver. Excuse me miss, but I just want to know, why is a pretty lady like you is walking in the dark by yourself?

Nora. Because I settled down with the wrong kind of man and now I have no where to be.

Cab Driver. Well, it happens to the best of us my dear. Now where should I take you?

[Nora tells the cab driver the address to Dr.Rank's house]

Nora. [Nora is thinking about her life and what she's going to do with it because she knows Dr.Rank is going to pass soon and when he does, her one true love will be gone forever.]

Cab Driver. We're here ma'am

Nora. Thank you [Nora gives him the money]

[Nora is outside Dr.Ranks house. The raining has stopped and its around 4pm.]

Nora. [she walks to the door and knocks on it]

Dr. Rank. [Dr. Rank wakes up] Who is that at this hour? It better be important.

[Dr. Rank walks down the steps and opens the door.

Dr. Rank. [Gasps and whispers] Nora...

Nora. [Nora is standing there not knowing what to say. Her brain is running a million miles a minute. Not knowing what to say it comes out] I left Torvald, Rank. I had no where else to go. Please, may I stay here tonight?

Dr .Rank. Of cores.. [Dr. Rank moves out of the way to let Nora in]

[Dr. Rank doesn’t ask any questions. He leads her to the spare bed room and walks away.]

[Nora is left alone with her thoughts again]

Nora. I need to talk to him. I have to let him know how I feel about him. I have to let him hear it in my own words. [Nora looks at the clock] 5 am already? I'll just talk to him tomorrow. [She lays down on the bed and goes to sleep]

Act V

Nora. [Nora wakes up around 12 in the afternoon] Oh shoot! It's 12pm! [Nora gets up and rapidly gets dressed]

[Nora walks down stairs to see Dr. Rank sirtting on his couch]

[Dr. Rank turns around.]

Dr. Rank. Good morning Nora [Stands up] Do you want to tell me about why you came to my door at 4am last night?

Nora. [Her heart is racing. How does she tell the man , that is going to pass, that she loves him? But how does she go the rest of her life without knowing what could of happen, even if its a short period of time?] I left Torvald, I told you that. [She walks passed Dr. Rank]

Dr. Rank [He turns around] Yes, I remember, but why Nora?

Nora [She hesitates] I got tired of being treated like a doll. I got tired of being something to look at and not something to use. [She steps closer] I got tired of not being with the person I belong with, of not being with the person I love and care for. [She steps back]

Dr. Rank What do you ever mean Nora? You left Torvald for me? Nora you know [Nora cuts him off]

Nora. I didn't leave Torvald for you, Rank. I left Torvald to be the person I want to be and learn about the world and society I live in. I left to be my own person. Telling you how I feel is a plus.

Dr. Rank So what do we do now?

Nora. How long did they say?

Dr. Rank. Douse that really matter?

Nora. Well, kinda. I want to know how long I have with you.

Dr. Rank. Not long enough darling. When was the last time you ate?

Nora. Um, lunch yesterday. I think

Dr. Rank Well I guess we should go have lunch. Then after we can go shopping and get you some stuff, to get you ready for your new life.

Nora. That sounds amazing but, you dont have to buy me anything. I'll manage.

Dr. Rank. I insist. I want to leave knowing you'll be okay. Now come on.

[Nora and Dr. Rank get in the car]

Act IV

Nora. Are we going to town?

Dr. Rank Yes, why?

Nora Wont it look bad if we're eating together. I just left my husband last night.

Dr. Rank Then lets go eat somewhere no one knows about.

[Nora and Dr. Rank drive for 30 minutes out of town to go eat]

Nora. How do you know about this place?

Dr. Rank. This is where I go to get away from everything.

[They eat, then go back to the car]

Nora. You really don't have to buy me anything. I'll be okay.

Dr. Rank. I already told you Nora. When I'm gone I want you to be taken care of. I don't have a lot of time ,and you know that, I want to spend as much money as I can as possible. Anything you want, you'll have.

Nora. [Rolls her eyes] Fine.

[They’re at the a store]

Dr. Rank [Holds up a hideous dress and says in a joking tone] What about this one?

Nora. [Joking tone] That's so cute! I think this would look good on you! [Holds up a hideous shirt]

Dr. Rank [Joking tone] That looks amazing ! Let's go try them on!

Nora Why not?

[They go to the dressing rooms and come out in the hideous cloths]

Nora Wow, that shirt is even uglier on then it was on the rack! [She says while giggling]

Dr. Rank. Well you look gorgeous but, that's nothing knew you always look gorgeous.

Nora Aw Rank, you make me fill like a teenage girl.

[Dr. Rank just smiles and they go to the front and buy what they have in their arms.]

[They are now in the car driving home]

Nora Torvald would of never done this with me.

Dr. Rank I'm not Torvald Nora, I never will be.

Nora I didn't mean to make you upset Rank.

Dr. Rank I know, you just get sad when you talk about him.

Nora Rank, it was last night? He was my husband. I did love him at one point in time.

Dr. Rank Do you love me Nora?

Nora What? Of cores! How could you ask that?

Dr. Rank No, I mean as much as you did Torvald.

Nora. What ever do you mean Rank?

Dr. Rank I saw the way you two looked at each other. I was at your house every day. I saw how happy you guys were together.

Nora But you didn't see how he treated me when no one was around. I was treated like a doll. He basically played with me to do whatever he wanted to do. I was always babied even from my father. He treated me like a doll too. I was to do everything that ether one of them said and if I didn't, well I don't know what would of happened because I always did it. I do love Torvald. I always will. He was the love of my life before I met you.

[They pull up to the house]

Dr. Rank I'm sorry Nora. I'm sorry that you could never be your own person. I'm sorry that you could never explore to see what the world is like.

Nora You didn't know. I don't hold it over you but lets get inside, its cold.

Dr. Rank [laughs under his breath] Okay I'll get the bags. Go on in.

Nora Okay, I'll get dinner started!

[Dr. Rank just shakes his head and smiles]

Nora. [Nora walks in the kitchen and starts to cook dinner, when it hits her that shes only cooking for two. Memories from Christmas morning are replaying in her head]

[Dr. Rank walks in with all of their stuff.]

Dr. Rank Nora! I cant open the door!

Nora [Nora snaps out of her thoughts] Coming ! [She walks to do the door and opens it]

Dr. Rank Thank you darling. [Smells the air] Something smells good ! [Gives Nora a kiss on the forehead]

Nora Its chicken and dumplings [giggles] my mom told me how to make it.

Dr. Rank [He sets the stuff down and walks back over to Nora who is know walking back to the kitchen] So how long till its done because I’m starving?

Nora Well with that attitude you will be going to bed without dinner mister!

Dr. Rank [Laughs] Okay fine! I'll go sit in my office and do some paper work. Call me down when you're done and we'll eat at the table.

Nora Okay I will. What paper work do you have to do ?

Dr. Rank Oh you know just paper work for the hospital. [walks up to his office and shuts the door]
How am I going to tell her that I'm not going to wake up in the morning? How do I tell the woman I love more than anything, that today is the only day that we can spend together and it's been the best day of my life. [Sits down at his desk] Paper work for the hospital? No, more like paper work for my death. Gosh. What am I going to do? I have to tell her. [Starts to write Nora a letter]

Dear my darling Nora, Let me start off by saying that I have loved you since I first saw you. You became my best friend, one of the only people I could talk to about everything. I don't know how to tell you this but I shouldn't wake up in the morning. It kills me that we didn't have more time together but I want to let you know, that today has been the best day of my life. I can only imagine what the rest of our lives could have been together. When you knocked on my door ,last night, all I wanted to do was help you. So I am, Nora I am giving you everything. All my money, my house, everything. Its yours, to do what you please with it. If you want to sell the house and go back to your home town ,you can. I wont be angry or hurt. I totally understand why you would want to. Nora I love you but I don’t know how to tell you how much I do love you. Just promise me this Nora, don’t dwell on me to long, okay? Don't stop your life or me. I'm extremely happy that you want to learn about the world we live in. Figure out who you are Nora. Be the best person you can be and I promise I will always be looking down on you, making sure you're okay. I love you, Nora. Please, don't ever forget that.

Nora RANK, DINNER IS DONE!

Dr. Rank OKAY I'LL BE DOWN! I'm so happy my last dinner is with you. [Walks down from his office to see Nora seated at the table ]

Nora Took you long enough ! I'm starving!

Dr. Rank [Sits down] Wow, Nora you cooked all of this ?

Nora What? Its just chicken and dumplings with the fixings? Corn, mash potatos, gravy, peas, green beans, corn bread and biscuits.

Dr. Rank I see that [Laughs]

Nora Just wait till tomorrow night ! I have a huge dinner planed for us.

Dr. Rank [Chokes on food] About that.

Nora What?

Dr. Rank I don't know if I'll be here for dinner

Nora Why? Do you have to work late or something?

Dr. Rank [I cant tell her] Yeah, I have to work late.

Nora Well, I can cook breakfast too!

Dr. Rank Okay, that will work. [God shes going to hate me]

[They get done eating dinner and they both go up the stares to go to bed]

[They are standing in front of their doors]

Nora Goodnight Rank. [gives him a hug]

Dr. Rank Goodnight my dearest Nora [Hugs her back]

[They both let go]

Nora I'll see you in the morning ! [Turns around and walks in her room]

Dr. Rank [Whispers] Only with luck, my dear. [Turns around and walks in his room]

[Nora wakes up extra early to cook breakfast, since the love of her life is working late] [Nora walks to Ranks door and knocks on it. He doesn’t answer]

Nora Rank!? [She walks in and sees him laying there. The worst comes to mind. She walks over there and her worst nightmare has came true. The love of her life is gone. Forever. She looks over and sees the letter she opens it and reads it. Tears run down her face.]

2 Months Later

[There is a for sell sign in the yard of the house. Nora is standing at the curb waiting on the cab. The cab shows up. She gets in]

Cab driver Where to pretty lady ?

[Nora tells him the name of her old town]

[The cab driver started the car and they are on there way]

Cab Driver Question miss. What is a pretty lady like you doing by yourself?

Nora. I lost the love of my life. So, I'm going back home.

Cab Driver It happens to the best of us, my dear. I'm sorry for your loss.
