SDI will be the leading force and the first point of reference in providing a reliable defense to eliminating the theft of food from bird feeders.
I feel my proposed vision statement defines SDI`s purpose, but only in terms of bottom line measures rather than of the organization's values (it lacks the values of the organization). For employees, my proposed vision gives no direction about how they are expected to behave but inspires them to give their best (so that we will be the first point of reference to consumers). I feel the vision shapes customers' understanding of what we provide and why they should patronize from the SDI.
The proposed vision does give a specific reason of SDI`s reason for existence. The vision answers the question “Why?” rather than just explaining what you do. The proposed vision lets the consumers know, “what business we are really in”. The vision paints a vivid picture of what the future looks like if SDI stays focus, but at the same time challenges SDI to strive for the number one spot in bird feeder retail. …show more content…
My proposed vision could definitely use a makeover in the “values” department.
Values provide guidelines on how you should proceed as you pursue your purpose and picture of the future. They answer the questions, “What do I want to live by?” and “How?” It’s almost as if my proposed vision minus linking the vision with company values is a bunch of empty words. If I had to propose a new vision statement I would implement company values, because life is about value conflicts. When these conflicts arise, people need to know which value they should focus on. The missing value section would help clarify what SDI will and won’t do to achieve its
vision.
The vision is short, competitive, and an inspiring statement of what the organization intends to become and to achieve at some point in the future. My proposed vision is all-inclusive and forward-thinking. It describes aspirations for the future, without specifying the means that will be used to achieve the desired ends. So, I would say that leaves room for innovation and creativeness for employees.
The proposed strategic vision also lacks originality. It’s dull and a bit boring and it could easily apply to any fly by night company, in my opinion. Maybe, I could propose a slogan to combat the dull and boring vision. The vision does inspire people; has strategic alignment; people know where the organization is going and what it is trying to achieve in the future.
In conclusion, my propose strategic vision statement is graphic in that it paints a picture of the kind of company that management is trying to create and the market positions the company is striving to stake out. Its directional because it describes the strategic course that management has charted. The vision is specific enough to provide managers with guidance in making decisions and allocating resources. I would also say that the proposed vision statement is also explainable in 5-10 minutes and makes good business sense. So, the vision statement does have some characteristics of an effectively worded strategic vision statement. Much to my dismay, my proposed vision had some minor common shortcomings. It does not provide a unique company identity; could apply to companies in any of several industries. It lacks the listing of the companies “values” as well. I can also say that my vision statement may be a little vague or short on specifics about how we intend on reaching the projected growth. All in all the strategic vision statement has potential and with a little tweaking can be the cornerstone of a great company
