Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre The Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre project had been conceptualized and initiated by Sri Sathya Sai Baba near his Ashram at Prasanthi Nilayam at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh in 1984. Immensely inspired by the Kodaikanal Observatory of Tamil Nadu, he had set up this planetarium, so that it would be an educational trip for every person wanting to know more about space and beyond.

The land so provided was near the Rose Garden, which is a popular visiting place by the local dwellers. The project commenced in the year 1985 and within a span of two years the city saw a dome shaped building standing proudly amidst the prodding arrays of roses. The efficient architectural designs of M/s Ravi Khosla Associates, the careful supervision of the Civil Contractor Mr. Vinod Kr. mts. Some 80 people can accommodate themselves to watch the shows which are displayed in the dome having a diameter of 8 meter. The instrument projecting the show is a ZKP2, opto-mechanical planetarium projector by Carl Zeiss, Jena from East Germany costing Rs. 15 lakhs. The Planetarium’s routine work of education, technical and administration is seen by 4 regular staff members.
Nearly 50 shows are aired in a year satisfying a horde of about 2500 people who come to partake in the enlightening shows of the Nehru Planetarium currently headed by Mr. Pradip Kr. Aggarwal, IAS and Commissioner of Municipal Corporation. Considering the relentless thrive of Space science and its attributes, it is merely a distance of a few years when Planetariums will be the sanctum for an advanced outer space viewing of humans.
