St. Jude Organizational Structure
Structures create moral behavior through the creation of authority relationship, delineation of lines of accountability, and allocation of decision- making rights. Consequently, “The organizational structure of CCSS was designed to maintain focused leadership, while facilitating input from and collaboration among the broad multi-disciplinary team that is required to aggressively investigate the spectrum of outcomes of interest among long-term survivors” (CCSS 2017).

Jude is proudly recognized as an institution, team/group, and individual. As an institution, St. Jude has been awarded one of the best places to work for. For example, the fortune magazine awarded St. Jude as one of the 100 best companies to work for, 100 best workplaces for women and millennial, and 50 best workplaces for diversity. People magazine awarded them as one of the 50 companies that care. For team/group awards, the St. Jude hospital was awarded: Magnet Recognition, American Nurses Credentialing Center (2015), American Society of Clinical Oncology Pediatric Oncology Award (2009), American Association for Cancer Research AACR Team Science Award (2009), and the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, American Association of Critical- Care Nurses (2009-2010). The Individual awards are many, and for the most part, their PhD’s, MD’s, and PharmD’s have been a huge success in receiving awards of excellence, research, and leadership; all of these people were rewarded for doing good by avoiding bottom-line mentality and by evaluating and implementing ethical processes.     In this case study Roger Cahill has been acting as the head of mobile division for less than a year. Currently he is struggling as he faces great difficulties adapting BoldFlash to a changing marketplace. The problem really started a year ago when Mr. Jim Harrison appointed the young Roger Cahill to a VP position. Although Roger has led a research project in his previous work, he is only 24 years old and inexperienced to manage a company at VP level. Positions at those levels require years of strategic leadership and management skills. Nevertheless in the last 12 months, the company focused primarily on the redundant production of customized chips without further research or product development in new and upcoming areas like the storage device. This negligence from both product development and marketing is a huge loss to the company as they missed out on the opportunity to launch new product line; therefore missed the opportunity to penetrate the potential market. The company’s profit margins are low and Cahill has to take initiatives to suggest number of changes. With the staff that has low morale and lacking motivation, Cahill has to develop action plan for improvement.
