Jude Children’s Hospital opened more than fifty years ago all because of a prayer and a promise that a struggling actor, Danny Thomas, made. The fact that the overall survival rates of childhood cancer has gone from less than 20% to 80% today is astounding and continues to provide hope to children and families of children with catastrophic illnesses. Danny Thomas once said, “no child should die in the dawn of life”, and I know that St. Jude will continue to research and work hard until no child dies from cancer. I would love to be a part of this incredible institution.
The St. Jude Volunteen Program would impact my life in many ways. If I were to be accepted into the program, I would be honored and extremely grateful. I believe I would be a valuable asset to the program because I pride myself on being dedicated and hardworking. I would be committed to being there each day, and I would work to the very best of my ability. When I was only eight years old I realized that I wanted to become an occupational therapist someday and make a difference in the lives of children; I believe working as a volunteer would strengthen my desire to become an occupation therapist in the future and hopefully become part of the St. Jude
