Therefore, PharmaCARE will first need to address the wages that are paid, the workload, and the living conditions of its employees versus the living conditions of its executives. These human rights issues need to be addressed immediately by the PharmaCARE board or the reputation of the company may become tarnished. Human rights are defined as the principle that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect (CITE). Does PharmaCARE believe that they are treating their employees with dignity and respect by living a lavish lifestyle while they only make $1.00 a day and the executives live in a fancy compound? They are absolutely not respecting the human rights of the local workers. PharmaCARE is in clear violation of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Document (CITE) because they are violating Article 23 that states, “Everyone has the right to work and to work in favorable conditions”. Walking a 10-mile round trip carrying 50 pounds is ridiculous and inhumane. This would simply not be acceptable in the United States, so it should not be acceptable for an American based company doing this in another country. PharmaCARE based their working environment decisions based on the scarce living environment of the indigenous people. They should be good corporate citizens and improve the living environment of the people that work for them. PharmaCARE should create a transportation system that would take the employees and the 50-pound baskets to and from the jungle. PharmaCARE should be concerned about their employee’s safety and wellbeing and want to improve the quality of life for the Colberians. PharmaCARE cannot expect this type of work to be performed by these employees, and expect them to stay healthy and continue to work for the company. Furthermore, PharmaCARE should consider investing in all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to move the workers and baskets to and from the jungle. These vehicles would be able to navigate the jungle while keeping the employees happy and healthy. These ATVs would also increase production because it would eliminate the employees walking 5 miles. Maximizing production and treating the employees in a respectable manner should be the number one priority for PharmaCARE. By implementing this small
