Standardized Testing Case Study

The issues that arise in the case study is the high school teacher Sarah is a math teacher in high school in a state that has mandated standard achievement testing yearly for every student. This is a problem because students usually never give their best effort when taking a standardize test. She believes that this test does not accurately measurers the student capability in the classroom. Now the sate has implemented a new graduation rule for students, they must meet state standards on the new mandated test in order to graduate. However for those students that doesn’t pass theses students will have to attend remedial educational programs and take the test over again.
In my opinion the advantages of having high school seniors being required
to take a test to pass is having the satisfaction of knowing that they are well prepared for the college level course. This also allows the state to insure that the schools and teachers are doing their part in teaching the necessary concepts needed for the next level of education whether its college, or even trade school. Personally I think this will make students work even harder to reach their goal for graduating. On the other hand the disadvantages of requiring students to pass a test to graduate may be, some students are not good test taker, they might know the material but when it comes time to do the test they may have sever test anxiety or might suffer from attention deficit disorder which may cause them to do poorly on the test.
I personally have mixed feelings about students being judged based on taking one test.
This can be a good thing and this can also be a bad thing, like stated previously some students are naturally good test takers, where some have a hard time passing standardize test not being they are not bright or may not know the material but could possibly because of a disorder or just not being able to control their anxiety while taking a test. So due to certain students circumstances this one test should not be based whether or not they graduate and go to college. This could be very discoursing to student that wants the opportunity to go to college and wants to become successful in the future, but is hindered by this one test. Where on the other hand this test can be helpful to the state to have a better visualization on what the students are being
taught.
Lastly we are aware that education is the key to success, it plays a very important role in ones life.
It is clear that educators are the foundation for every student. And it is impetrative that we always put forth or best effort to insure that every student are getting the best education possible. Some district ties teacher pay to students performance on test which is unfair in my opinion, teachers pay should not determine whether or not a student pass a test.as my parents would always tell me growing up, “ you can lead a horse to water but you cant force them to drink” and the same goes for education you can teach a child, but you cant force them to learn. Some students may put in more effort than some and have more parent involvement where as others are disinterested in school and learning causing teachers to run into a road block because parents are not
involved.
