This woman had a tremendous impact on Montag. She burned with her books. When he is talking with Mildred about it later, he says "There must be something in books, things we can't imagine to make a woman stay in a burning house, there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing." (pg 51) Mildred tries to say that the woman was simple-minded and that it is water under the bridge. Montag knows that the experience will last him a lifetime. He cannot put it out of his mind. He goes on to explain that for the first time he realized that a man wrote the books He had to think them up and put them down on paper, and then he came along and in two minutes burned it all up and it was over. It seriously bothered him.…

Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is a modern day allegory for censorship of the media shown through the prohibition of books in the novel, and the restriction of Internet use in China and North Korea. In modern times, the Internet is a huge source of information. Over one third of the population of the world uses the Internet and that number is growing rapidly. Books are another widely used source of information with over 129 million books printed per year. Owning books in Fahrenheit 451 is punished by imprisonment or death via the Mechanical Hound as well as the books being burned by the firemen. In China and Korea speaking out against the government through the Internet could result in death or imprisonment.…

In a world where books are outlawed and knowledge is scoffed, separation from true feelings means true happiness. Or does it? Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates exactly what the world would be if people were separated so completely from their feelings that they were unable to comprehend the true meaning and feeling of real satisfaction. Although Fahrenheit 451 and our society today are distinctly different, they also have some startling similarities.…

Social criticism is very important in society today. Most people in our society encounter social criticism on a daily basis! Television shows like Saturday Night Live, discuss social issues on just about every episode. Social criticism is important to have though, because it keeps our society in check, so we know what is right and what is wrong, based on opinions. In the book Fahrenheit 451, author Ray Bradbury socially criticizes many different things. Two of the things he criticizes many times are censorship and politics.…
When Bradbury describes the protagonist's walk, the repetition of the word silence is used to assure readers that Leonard is alone, suggesting the possibility of no human interaction. While everyone is in their “tomb-like buildings”( Bradbury 2) watching television, Leonard is wandering the desolated streets alone. It shows that Leonard is behind the times and considered abnormal to the rest of society as he is the only human visible in the city. While, the simile of his “shadow moving like a hawk in midcountry” shows that the protagonist is alone, it also suggests that he has nothing in common with the rest of society and wants to move around unnoticed. While Leonard is moving like a hawk through the city showing how he is free-spirited like…
Not only is Bradbury a smart guy, furthermore he can tell the future. No one ever knew how our world would change to be, but Bradbury had it all figured out. Human beings today live in a world where everyone is demonic, as if we’re under some spell. Likewise, the people in fahrenheit 451 were under the same controlling spell that made them move in a manner they assumed was normal.…
1610, Galileo Galilei had publicly announced his support and belief of a Heliocentric Solar System, the Sun being the center of Earth. Throughout his life, Albert Einstein, famous for his general theory of relativity, had challenged all theories including Newton’s Laws of Motion. Dating back earlier, as early as 240 BC, a Greek mathematician named Eratosthenes had come with the theory of how the Earth was not flat. During Georges Lemaitre’s time, he had started the hypothesis of the Big Bang Theory, which is now a theory built upon a majority of scientists. Mark Twain, Thomas Edison, William Shakespeare; these are just a few artists that have sparked the world into a brighter way of thinking.…
Imagine a world with no free thought and where reading books is viewed as a threat to society and the happiness of its citizens. Ray Bradbury did just this in his novel Fahrenheit 451. Concerned by the rise of technology and the relationship between burning books and burning people, Bradbury sought to highlight the dangerous path that society is on, one that could lead to mindlessness and thoughtlessness. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury challenges thoughtlessness and promotes freethinking through the construction of his characters. He uses the character of Mildred and her friends to show the consequences of a superficial, dumbed-down society that focuses on pleasure, while Montag and Clarisse show the power and importance of free thought.…
Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451 illustrates what will happen if we let society fall away from thinking and reading. The main character, Montag, is a fireman that struggles between following society or going against it after he meets Clarisse, a preppy, meddlesomeness teenager. After he encounters her, he starts reading books and apprehending them and becomes to establish more questions regarding why people do certain things in his socety. One of the main questions is “Why is the society against its citizens having knowledge?” Bradbury uses the symbolism of the books, the sieve and the sand, and fire to help the reader percieve the theme of knowledge versus ignorance.…
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a book that should be taught in a high school student’s education because of the warnings and important messages it displays. In my opinion, the most important message in the book has to do with the misuse of technology. Bradbury even says himself that technology can be useful in some ways, but that it can’t and shouldn’t replace human connection and interaction. He uses the example of TV’s on all four walls to get his point across that people are paying more attention to TV, rather than actual people speaking to them. This repeatedly happens with Mildred throughout the book and it helps flip a switch in Montag’s head. He finally realizes that’s not how human interaction is supposed to work. It propels…
Ray Bradbury is the author of Fahrenheit 451 a book that displays different reality for the society being spoken about in the novel. Throughout the story, Bradbury brings in several different themes as well as topics acquired with the main storyline as a way to open the eyes of the reader to a different type of society. One of these topics he portrays throughout the whole story is a minor character doesn’t need to play a large role in the novel to have a major impact on the outcome. A character doesn’t have to play a major part in something to make an immense difference in the outcome of the story, the mental presence of a character can at times play a more important part than their physical presence, and words spoken can have more of an impact…
