Review of Vivien Top Taste Authentic Jamaican cuisine is hard to kind outside of Jamaica, but over the years Vivien Top Taste restaurant in Philadelphia has made it a little easier. The freshly grown ingredients come together in a savoring fashion to give you a dining experience you will love. Vivien Top Taste is located on 73rd and Elmwood Ave in the West Philadelphia region but upon arrival you get a smell from the kitchen that brings your taste buds on a mini vacation to Jamaica. Over the years this restaurant has grown and is serving American cuisines as well. How have this restaurant grown so much? I think that with hard working chefs, tasteful traditional dishes, and a welcoming vibe, Top Taste has managed to stay on top. Top Taste is owned by Vivien Shields, a long time chef and business owner. She has grown over the years and her restaurants have as well. Unlike other Jamaican restaurants that that limit themselves to just Jamaican food or just one restaurant, Vivien took on the challenge of expanding not only her restaurants, but she is also expanding Jamaican cuisine, one new customer at a time. Vivien now has three Top Tastes: two in America and one in Jamaica. This restaurant is helping to translate a culture through food, and they do this well.
Vivien is a real character that you can have a good laugh with and being from Jamaica herself, she's a wealth of knowledge all things Jamaican if you’re curious to know. One of her main goals is to get Jamaican food on the map. She not only talks about, Miss Vivien also acts upon it. When talking to Vivien about Jamaican food, the intensity of her feelings shows through facial expressions and body language. Vivien giggled when she said, “I always tell folks… When coming to America bring your own food.” This quote speaks volumes; I believe she was talking not just about food but also your culture. She is a fan of Jamaican food and loves sharing it with others from all over
