When people stand around and do nothing then the company does poorly. This effect pay checks and price of products and services. Not only that but you succeed in doing something. I don’t mean the job but you start applying yourself to a new skill and you develop yourself that is what work is you put yourself in, then you get a better self out with a pay check…

Near the end of the book leo wanted to be like everyone. I can relate to this because at one point I just wanted to be like everyone else, but Leo and I both learned that it is not necessary to change who you are. We also both learned that being selfish doesn't always get you what you want. As evidence in the text Leo made Stargirl change herself for his benefit and that ended in Stargirls embarrassment. Also i think that Leo and i learn our lessons to late. As proof in the text Leo learn that his actions can hurt others and he lost Stargirl before he even knew what happened. I can relate to that because I often say the wrong things to the wrong people and I often learn to late that my actions can hurt other…

The movie Girl interrupted is an interesting movie that delves into the psychology of multiple young girls in an in-house psychiatric facility. The two main characters in the movie are Susanna, played by Wynona Rider, and Lisa, played by Angelina Jolie. The movie is about the lives of the different girls who are in the in-patient facility and their particular disorders. The movie shows the patients going to where the files on each of them are kept and finding out what the psychiatrists had been writing about them, including their particular diagnoses. Susanna is the main character of the movie and is quite the afflicted individual. Susanna is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder by the psychiatrists at the facility and falls into deep denial about her diagnosis. She is a young and troubled girl who seems to fit the diagnoses of the psychiatrists extremely well. Another key character is the movie is Lisa who is a controlling individual who torments some of the other patients at times. Lisa is diagnosed as a sociopath, which is a form of anti-social personality disorder, by the psychiatrists and also seems to fit the diagnosis extremely well. There are also two extremely interesting minor characters in this movie that deserve mention. These two characters are the disfigured Polly, who had poured gasoline on her face and ignited it as a child, and the extremely depressive Daisy, who seems to have some severe depression and a possible eating disorder. Although these two characters were never formally diagnosed in the movie, their particular actions and issues speak worlds to the world of abnormal psychology and I ended up feeling the worst for in the movie. Susanna, Lisa, Polly, and Daisy all have very interesting but different problems and ties to abnormal psychology and the different disorders that can afflict certain individuals.…

Stella shows many traits of having this blasé attitude. The most recognizable trait is the fact that she has created this “urbanized identity” within herself that is the complete opposite of what women in 1950’s Athens were supposed to be like. Here is an attractive young lady living in a metro city such as Athens where she is surrounded by big city living every day. After a while, her surroundings became boring, and she coped with this by creating a different side of herself to go against the grain of society so that nothing she did was boring or predictable anymore. Stepping outside of her box allowed Stella to add excitement and flair to her life. It’s almost as if to say she was in her own world so to speak. She didn’t care about anything in the real world that she lived in. She mistreats the people in her life because she neglects people’s feelings and is only concerned about herself. There’s always something exhilarating about doing the things you know you aren’t supposed to do. It’s like when a parent tells their kid that they can’t have any ice cream because they haven’t eaten dinner yet. The child will just want the ice cream even more and although he knows well enough that he shouldn’t have it, he goes against what his parents said and grabs it from the freezer and has a bowl. The same can be seen with Stella. She lives in a society that is trying to tell her to be and act a certain way, and she knowingly and…

Jessica Hemauer’s essay, “Farm Girl,” tells her life story of living on a farm through her eyes as ten-year-old child to the time of her early adulthood. The purpose of this piece is to teach the importance of life's responsibilities to children, mainly female, and young adults who may not be familiar with the challenges life can bring and to promote the benefits you can gain by overcoming those obstacles. Hemauer uses pathos, which appeals to emotion, logos, designed to engage our logic, and ethos, to prove its credibility, to convey that though growing up on a family farm was a struggle day-to-day, it was valuable life lesson because it shaped her into the well-rounded and hard working person she is today.…

In this stimulating true story, Kaysen speaks of her experience as an eighteen-year-old patient in a psychiatric hospital in the late 1960's. "People ask, how did you get in there? What they really want to know is if they are likely to end up in there as well. I can't answer the real question. All I can tell them is, it's easy" (pg. 5). The doctor who referred her diagnosed her with a borderline personality disorder within twenty minutes of interviewing her. The doctor also perceived her as extremely depressed with a pattern-less life. Recent activities included having a relationship with her English teacher, attempted suicide, running away from her parent's home and having a troublesome boyfriend. Kaysen wrote, "I had an inspiration once. I woke up one morning and I knew that today I had to swallow fifty aspirin. It was my task: my job for the day" (pg. 17). The doctor explained she just needed a "rest" for a few weeks, but Kaysen ended up spending nearly two years at McLean Hospital. During that time, she developed many friendships with quite a few of the other teenage girls. Among the patients admitted to her ward, Kaysen describes Polly, a kind patient with disfiguring, self-inflicted burns to her face and body. Lisa, another patient, entertains Kaysen with her flee attempts and embellished hatred for hospital authorities. Kaysen's roommate, Georgina, struggles to keep a relationship with Wade, a vicious and unstable boyfriend from another ward, who tells the girls apparently strange stories about his father with the CIA. The obsessions of roasted chicken and laxatives make a newly arrived patient named Daisy the object of attention. Daisy eventually leaves the hospital and commits suicide on her birthday. In addition, Torrey, who is an ex-drug addict, was placed in McLean by her parents because of her promiscuity. Her parents eventually remove her against her own will and bring her back to Mexico where she believes she may return to her junkie…

Easy. Breezy. Beautiful. Covergirl. What exactly is beauty? Beauty can be defined in many ways. Some may say beauty comes from within, while others say it is the physical features of a person that may be appealing. The Apple Dictionary states that beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, which pleases the aesthetic senses, especially sight. In the eyes of most down to earth people, beauty comes from within; it is not based on what a person may look like. Covergirl believes in beauty being a physical feature, and without their products someone is not pretty like their models. By appealing to the emotions and visual eye of the consumer, the Covergirl advertisement convinces them that if they use their products, they will too be as attractive as the celebrities.…

The author is trying to portray and mindset of how you people deal with depression, learn to love yourself, and if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. Many of us go thru this during high school the fear of not being popular and having much insecurity to the point of us barely going to school and/or talking to others in school. It’s an image of how teens deal with problems throughout high school and outside lives and how it can take them to doing things of stupidity to feel loved.…

The meaning of her quote is the fact that girls cannot become successful, self-assured, and civically engaged if they do not see women who express their traits in the movies or in the magazines. The message from this trailer is women were portrayed in a way that is unfair when they are judged by the look, not their ability. It is one of the few big media productions that questions and brings to attention the portrayal of women in this massive media. There are not matters how they are willing to work hard to their goals; the society does not take them seriously. The massive media is giving young people the idea that women’s value lies in their beauty, and sexuality but is not in their capacity as leaders. The evidences are that the percentage of women in Congress comparing to men or women who play sport are working hard to achieve their goals in life. They are also comparing the number of women in the government from different countries such as China, Cuba, and Iraq more than in the United States. “The U.S is 90th in the world in terms of women in national legislatures”, is according to the “Women in National Parliament”, 2011. There are many famous face of women including: Katie Couric (Anchor in CBS Evening News), Rosario Dawson (Activist and Actor), Margaret Cho (Comedienne, Actor and Activist), or Jennifer Pozner (Executive Director Women in Media and News, Author); they talk about the ability and important of women attitude in this country. They are leaders in their fields, accomplished and powerful. They are exactly the type of role models the makers of the film want to highlight as counter to the sexualized, degraded, objectified women rendered voiceless by other media makers. The film aims to challenge the tight corners the mainstream media likes to paint women…
