Star Wars Battlefront
I've been bouncing around a little with the new canon Star Wars book, having skipped couple due to getting my hands on them. I'm hoping I can eventually get back to the older ones releases and give them a read and review. For now though, I'm reviewing the latest Star Wars book to come out, Battlefront: Twilight Company, which has been released to coincide with the Star Wars Battlefront video game. Because the game doesn't have a story, the book acts as a way for fans to get some much-needed action and story under the Battlefront name. The book excels at delivering the thrills, having the story follow a group of soldiers fighting for the Rebels under the group name Twilight Company. The story also jumps over the Empire side of things and gives us a pretty neat look at the life of a Stormtrooper.

SP-457 believes that working for the Empire is a just cause and for the good of the people. It was very interesting to see the story explain that not everyone that is on the "bad" team is evil and makes you think of the all the poor people that get slaughted by the Rebels, who are just doing what they think is right. Honestly, I would love a book about the life of a Stormtrooper, seeing the war play out through the eyes of lowly fighter for the Empire. I think it would be pretty neat.

Star Wars Battlefront: Twilight Company was an exciting read, with plenty of action filling the pages. The book shows the life of a bunch of Rebel soldiers fighting against the pressing weight of the Empire. Most of the men and women are fighting just because that's all they've known and they could've easily have been fighting for the Empire if things were different, which goes to show that war isn't as black and white as you think it is.     The novel I read is titled Soldier's Heart written by Gary Paulsen.The book consisted of 128 pages which seemed to be a fairly easy read in my opinion.     The Battle of 73 Easting was a battle fought in Iraq approximately 50 miles east of Al Busayyah between United States Army’s 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the Tawakalna Division from the elite Iraqi Republican Guard during the Gulf War period.     Operation Just Cause, was the invasion of Panama by the United States in December 1989. Sometime in late December to early January, Twenty-Third Air Force was part of reestablishing democracy in the Republic of Panama during the operation. Special operations aircrafts that were used were AC-130 Spectre gunships, EC-130 Volant Solo, HC-130P/N Combat Shadow tankers, MC-130E Combat Talons, and MH-53J Pave Low and MH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters. The Spectre gunship crews of the 1st Special Operations Wing earned the Mackay Trophy and Tunner Award for their efforts, a 919th Special Operations Group Spectre crew earned the President's Award, and a 1st Special Operations Wing Combat Talon crew transported Panamanian President, Manuel Noriega, to a prison in the United States. The efforts of the 1st Special Operations Wing maintenance people earned them the Daedalian Award. On May, 22 1990, General Larry D. Welch, Air Force Chief of Staff, redesignated Twenty-Third Air Force as Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). The new major command consisted of three wings: the 1st, 39th and 353rd Special Operations Wings as well as the 1720th Special Tactics Group, the U.S. Air Force Special Operations School, and the Special Missions Operational Test and Evaluation Center. After major redesignations and reorganizations, AFSOC direct reporting units include the 16th Special Operations Wing, the 352nd Special Operations Group, the 353rd Special Operations Group, the 720th Special Tactics Group, the USAF Special Operations School and the 18th Flight Test Squadron. During the early 1990s a major change happened in AFSOC. The 1720th Special Tactics Group became the 720th Special Tactics Group in March; the transfer of ownership of Hurlburt Field from Air Mobility Command to AFSOC in October 1992, followed by the merging of the 834th Air Base Wing into the 1st Special Operations Wing which assumed host unit responsibilities.     This book is about 1stSgt. Kasal’s life leading up to his most honorable moment while in the battle of Fallujah. The book starts out by telling how 1stSgt. Kasal grew up in Afton, Iowa. He grew up on farm like most other families in his hometown. But with farming becoming obsolete in the shadow of large corporations, Brad Kasal already knew by junior high that he didn’t want to slave on a farm to barely scrape by like his father. He already had the Marine Corps in his sights. January 1984, Kasal left his hometown of Afton, Iowa and got a plane destined for MCRD, San Diego. Kasal shined right away and became a squad leader and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class by graduation and instructed that he was going to indeed be a grunt like he wanted. After graduating as the honor graduate in School of Infantry, Kasal was stationed on Camp Pendleton with 2nd battalion, 1st marine regiment. He was a PFC in Weapons Co. as a Dragon gunner. Two months after checking in with his unit, Kasal was again meritoriously promoted. Kasal’s first deployed to the Western Pacific on a Marine Expeditionary Unit in June 1986. Shortly after he would win an NCO of the quarter award and once again get another meritorious promotion. Kasal throughout his career would consistently pick up meritorious promotions all the way to Sergeant Major. By March of 2003 when Operation Iraqi Freedom started, Kasal was 1stSgt of Kilo Co. 3d Battalion, First Marine Regiment. While still 1stSgt of Kilo, they were part of the second attempt to take back Fallujah in November of 2004. The mission was to take back Fallujah by getting rid of any insurgents left in the city. Because there were innocents still within the city limits, rules of engagement meant to not fire unless fired upon or if the enemy is seen with a weapon. This made things very difficult.
