SUMAMRY:
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (Starwood Hotels) is one of the largest hotel and leisure companies in the world. Starwood Hotels, along with its subsidiaries, owns, operates and franchises hotels and resorts. As of June 30 2010, the company operated 1,011 hotels, of which it owned 7%, managed 45% and franchised 48%. In addition, it owned 540 hotels in North America, 254 in Europe, Africa and Middle East, 62 across Latin America and 164 hotels across Asia Pacific. It also owns 22 vacation resorts and residential properties in the US, Mexico, and the Bahamas. It operates its network of hotels and resorts under various leading brands including The Luxury Collection, St. Regis, Sheraton, Four Points, Westin, W Hotels, by Sheraton, Le Meridien, Aloft and Element. The company operations span North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Starwood Hotels is headquartered at White Plains, New York, the US.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. has expansion plans for the Middle East and has signed agreements for three W Hotel’s in Dubai and Doha as well as a Westin and Luxury Collection property in Agaba, Jordan.
PROBLEM:
In order to identity the strategic plan of the management of Starwood, our group will be providing a SWOT Analysis for Starwood Hotels and Resort Worldwide Inc. in their expansion plans in the Middle East.
