The position is an appointed position and not an elected one like most state judges, said Ron Postell Grand Prairie city attorney. Arnold applied for the position and went through an interview. Tom Hart, Grand Prairie city manager, selected Arnold for the position. The city council then had to approve a two-year contract for the position.
Arnold will make $165,462 annually according to the Grand Prairie Operating Budget Expenditure Information. Nancy Robb, previous municipal court judge announced her retirement March 1, according to the agenda legislation details. Arnold will begin as the judge April 4.

“A lot of his experience has been working with young people, and we think that is a good combination for someone who will sit in a position that has to make very important decisions, but also wants to see especially young people learn and do better in the future,” Hart said. Arnold will use his experience as an attorney to be a judge who has a good understanding of protecting an individual’s rights, Hart said.
“I think he’s going to approach the judge’s job with one that is a serious job that he will do with the upmost integrity, but I think he’s also going to take the judge’s position and see what he can do the help people,” Hart said. “There’s times a decision a judge makes can effect a person’s life in the future.”
Arnold helped form the Sports Corporation board that established Lone Star Park, a horse race track, Hart said. The board started in 1992.
