I was lucky enough to have computers in my household during my childhood days. Being born in a middle-class family (in a third-world country), having a computer at home was incredible! Only a very few people could afford, or more importantly use computers in my country. I remember those big black-and-white monitors and 5 inch floppy disks, when the only operating system that was popular was MS-DOS. My uncle was studying Computer Science in the early 90s, the time I had been born. He opened up a small IT institution in the ground floor of our building, and set his career as a teacher. So naturally, I picked up a lot about computers from my uncle every since I was a kid. By the time I was 11, I could help grown-up students in my uncle’s institution with their computer lessons. I was loved and praised to have such talents at such an early age. By the time I was in mid-school and onwards, my friends were always fighting over each other to make me their computer lab partner. Because I always scored the highest marks in tests and projects, and I had a lot of fun in acing them.
As a kid, I enjoyed being around computers and strongly considered making it my career someday. I finished 10th grade and sat for my O’ Level Examinations in the years 2007-08. After that, I changed my school because I wanted to focus on science in my A’ Levels, but my school did not offer A’ Level Science courses at that time. I started preparing for my A’ Levels, but couldn’t end up completing them due to family and financial matters. My father went through a huge loss in his business, for which it became harder for my father to run a family of 3 kids, all going to very good and expensive schools in the city. I, being the eldest son in the family, decided to help my family go through the rough patch, for which I suffered a huge gap in my studies. It’s been over 2 years since I got out of school, and now I’m determined to continue my education and achieve my goals I so profoundly developed as a kid. In these 2 years, I have worked with my father, and also tried providing for my family by home tutoring children, and looking after my mother and siblings. I am very fond of music; hence I picked up to play the drums while I was in school. I have been playing for 4 years and I recently worked in The Academy of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Dhaka, as a music teacher, and drum coordinator. I have played with several bands and released some music on the process. Other than that, I have also contributed to a good amount of community work for my country.
My family has recovered to a stable state over these years and I have decided to achieve my goals in life. Since I have lost many years, I decided it would be a better option to resume my education with Vocational Certificate and Diploma courses (instead of appearing for my A’ Levels), which will also help me work and gain experience alongside my studies, and eventually lead to a Bachelor’s degree. I have grown a lot of interest in computers, multimedia and arts. Since Australian education is well renowned and secures a good future for interactive students, I have decided to pursue my higher education at Sydney. I have done a lot of research over the last couple of months and finally made my decision to set my career by starting my education at TAFE NSW. Being the eldest son, I wish to take a lot of responsibilities for my family. Plus, I would enjoy studying the subject I have always loved. I’m sure that this decision is perfect for me, and I cannot wait to start my education and contribute a great deal to both my family and the world, as much as possible.

I wasn’t terribly sure what I wanted to do with my life, nor did I have any idea how to get where I thought I wanted to be. My relative lack of passion wasn’t seen as a deterrent in my affluent Texas town, though, as it was a place where nearly all high school students went on to college—it was the only option we really considered or that was presented to us by our families, teachers, and counselors as a post-graduation plan. So I began the requisite search by looking first at nontraditional college environments, for while I had done reasonably well at my large and impersonal public high school, nor had I flourished either. It seemed to me that if I was going to spend the next four years of my life in school, I might as well try a different tactic than the one that had allowed me to coast rather unremarkably through high school.…

From an early age, I've been deeply fascinated by computing. I was first introduced to this gadget, my 30 pounds Pentium 1, by my dad when I was just nine. I was immediately struck by this incredible machine that seemed to take a life of its own. This sparked the desire to learn more about computers, to learn about how they work; a desire that still drives me to this day. More than anything, I always imagined a computer as more than just any machine unlike the other electronics in our house; certainly given the amount of time I would spend on a computer, it was more human to me than most of my family members and friends These were still the days when most people in Pakistan did not have access to computers. However, I wanted to go beyond merely learning to play simple games. As soon as I got my first internet connection, a 28K dial up modem, I discovered an online community filled with wonders and information about all kinds of stuff. It was then that I set for myself the goal that I would teach myself everything and anything about computers and how they were configured Although I formally started studying computer sciences when I was in high school, I began my informal studies when I was merely 12 . However, I had always been fascinated by numbers and was naturally apt at performing computations in my head. As such, I found the laws and computations performed in science very logical and as such pursued physics and chemistry during these years. This further chiseled my analytical and evaluation skills. Although I have grown older, my interest in computers and computing has not faded I have never allowed it to be restricted to classrooms and school life. In the last 15 months, I have self-taught myself to create my own browser using Visual Basic. I have also been learning Java and Python and have managed to create automated testing frameworks while building a lot of other internal tools. Besides this, I sometimes collaborate with friends, both…
