It is common for medical assistants to go to and graduate from a post-secondary program. These programs usually last about a year. The programs include both classroom and laboratory sections that deal with anatomy and medical terminology. In most states, it is not required for a medical assistant to be certified.
You need knowledge in customer and personal service to take care of and provide for your patients. Knowledge in medicine and dentistry to be able to help diagnose and treat the patients you see. You should also have knowledge
of and the ability to work with files, records, and other important paper work.
To be a successful medical assistant it is important to be a good listener so that you can give full attention and fully understand what your patient or other coworkers are telling you. Being able to sense a problem or issues leading up to a problem will help in becoming successful. It will be very helpful to have social perceptiveness and knowing people’s reactions and why they reacted in the way they did. You must be computer and technology smart because you will spend some time on a computer. It will be common in your day to assist and care for others by providing personal and medical attention to patients. You will have to take notes on observations you make while with patients. Once you get that information, you will have to give it to doctors and nurses. You will have to clean medical instruments. You will be working closely with patients and sometimes may have to get biological specimen from them if necessary for testing. You will take vital signs, like blood pressure. This occupation has a wide variety of salaries. Salaries can be anywhere from below $22, 040. They also can go above $43,880. The median salary for a medical assistant is $30,590. This occupation is also expected to grow in the coming years. I again don’t think I could do this job because of the needles and getting biology specimen. I am more set on going into radiography. If I were to consider something like this I feel like I would go more towards nursing than a medical assistant.
