options, I couldn‘t decide which career was right for me. When doctors diagnosed my son
with autism, therapy was our main goal. Specifically, occupational therapy. When I saw
first hand the difference it made in our lives, I knew I wanted to help change the lives of
people. Although, I have considered and researched other careers, occupational therapy
assisting fits both my personal and career goals.
Having seen first hand the way an occupational therapy assistant can

Being as I have 3 children, one with special needs, a flexible
work schedule was a huge I had to take into consideration. Occupational therapy
assistants working at a hospital could work nights/weekends where occupational therapy
assistants working in a clinical setting would normally work Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
Considering there were a number of occupational degrees to consider when
looking to become an occupational therapist assistant, I decided to choose an associate
degree in occupational therapist assisting. It is a 2 year associates program that focuses
on biology, human anatomy, and psychosocial interventions, to help prepare me to take
the National Board for Certificates in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. I will also
have to take continuing classes to keep my OTA certification active.
In conclusion, with all the research that I have done, I am definitely more
intrigued now, more than ever in becoming an occupational therapist assistant. Between
helping people, the amazing hours, and the generous pay, I feel as if being an
occupational therapist assistant is the right career choice for
