The Ancient Greeks practiced a religion that was superseded by culture. The foundation of their culture was built on their mythology but it became much more than that. Ancient Greece was not a melting pot of religion. The people were more unified than the common American might understand. The people of Athens, as well as the rest of Ancient Greece, built the foundation of their lives on the Acropolis and their mythology, however, instead of it simply being a means of religion, it was a means of culture.…

I wasn’t terribly sure what I wanted to do with my life, nor did I have any idea how to get where I thought I wanted to be. My relative lack of passion wasn’t seen as a deterrent in my affluent Texas town, though, as it was a place where nearly all high school students went on to college—it was the only option we really considered or that was presented to us by our families, teachers, and counselors as a post-graduation plan. So I began the requisite search by looking first at nontraditional college environments, for while I had done reasonably well at my large and impersonal public high school, nor had I flourished either. It seemed to me that if I was going to spend the next four years of my life in school, I might as well try a different tactic than the one that had allowed me to coast rather unremarkably through high school.…

For the past three years I have worked as a coach for the youth basketball organization, the Next Year's Stars. We are composed of twelve basketball teams, spread out amongst four coaches, with myself being the youngest and second most tenured coach. There are practices running at least once a day, with games scheduled all Saturdays and Sundays. I only run practices twice a week and coach two to three games per weekend. Though I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity I have to instill the fundamentals of the game I love, I realize that I could be more active within the organization by taking a heavier workload. By continuing to engage, serve, and coordinate team practices and games within the Next Year’s Stars, I will learn the true meaning of leadership.…

Having done most of my schooling in Mumbai, I was surrounded by a lot of family friends who were entrepreneurs and owned various business enterprises. Seeing the challenges faced by them and knowing first-hand accounts of their experiences I dreamt of owning a venture myself.…
