Statement Of Purpose In Mechanical Engineering
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
“One man’s magic is another man’s engineering. Supernatural is a null word.”
Human needs drive the requirement for the advancement of technology. Innovators come up with various innovative ideas to fulfill the needs of mankind. Engineers though are a bit different. Along with inventing new ideas they also concentrate on sustainable growth of technology for any purpose in the future. I have always been interested in a machine’s working along with its design and also interested in finding its errors. Hence, I was often addressed as the “destructive girl’ at my home. But my parents were very supportive throughout. My father always told me to thrive for my passion and do all things possible to achieve it. Playing with calculators,

Education has always been one of my greatest strengths. I have always tried to excel in academics and due to continuous hard work and labor I have always produced good results. I passed 10th grade with 93% marks. According to my interest I took science in 12th grade and got 85% marks. Then I appeared for the entrance examination of my college and was in the list of top 500 selected students. My major strengths have always been my sense of imagination and creativity; which helped me to take a stream that would allow me to properly utilize my strengths and channel them in a right direction. Hence I chose mechanical engineering where I am in the list of top students of the branch with 9.02 GPA out of 10.
In my undergraduate years I learned a lot of interesting subjects and acquired a strong background in the fundamentals of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, design of machine elements, theory of machines etc. I have also had an introduction to specified areas like AUTOCAD and

I did two industrial training in this tenure of four years approx. The first one was at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Bokaro for one month. The training was primarily regarding the overview of the entire plant. I got to see the utilization of all the theories that I had studied so far. My second training was at NTPC Limited, Barh for one month. The machines seemed very exquisite and as the mentor went on with the explanations about its working, I became more and more enthralled. I also participated in RC (remote control) car workshop in 4th semester. After the workshop ended, we were given a kit and asked to design our own RC car. I designed a car which completed both the problem statements that were given to us. Presently I am working on a review paper on the topic “structure and flickering of non premixed LPG flame at different fuel flow rate with constant co flow air.” It deals with the flickering of the LPG flame at various rates of fuel flow keeping the counter flow air constant. The experimentation was carried out by varying the volumetric flow rate of fuel and air. Flame image was captured by Prosilica camera and subsequently flame radiation intensity was detected by Photomultiplier tube through data accusation system LabView

Originally, I thought that the reason that I wanted to pursue an engineering degree is because of my family. However, I was wrong. Although for two generations, my family members all graduated from different engineering programs in my home country, it was still my own choice to apply to the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. From my childhood, I was told that my father graduated from the electrical engineering program at the best university in China. So did my mother and grandfather. I was given a heavy burden from then, and once I thought I was going to step onto the exactly same path as my family did until I stepped on the land of Canada for the first time. For the past three years I have changed a lot. I guess it is not only because of the better education system of Ontario, but also because that my field of vision has been widened. I chose the University of Toronto simply because I am interested in Engineering Science, and because the engineering programs in the University of Toronto are definitely the best choices among all. I realize that I am most interested in the biomedical engineering program in Engineering Science program, and I really hope that I can further improve my knowledge and vision there.…

The nature of engineering is learning to apply scientific and mathematical principles towards developing solutions of technical problems. Engineers are the secret link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet consumer needs. Many engineers develop new products in which components are precisely specified. For instance, the product must be effective, reliable, safe, and be sold at a decent price. This process applies to the development of chemicals, computers, power plants, helicopters, and much much more. These engineers supervise factory production, determine causes of machinery failure and test goods so to maintain quality. (Career Info)…

My pursuit of physical therapy as a profession comes from my interest in healing the human body. Originally inspired by my grandfather, it has been my profession of choice for as long as i can remember; From a young child observing my grandfather unable to be mobile without the use of a cane, to my teenage years when I learned about the dynamics of the human body, to even more recently, after the excision of an osteochondroma on my femur during my time spent in the care of a physical therapist. <---RUN ON SENTENCE, ADJUST IT These humbling experiences have helped solidify my passion for physical therapy.…

Having grown up in a household with a „hands-on‟ father, I became interested in the technological aspects of life from a young age. My passion for technology was the deciding factor in choosing a technical high school over an academic high school. I completed grade 12 in Rhodesfield High School with Mechanical Engineering as technical subject. My secondary education was complemented in 2006 with a National Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology. In 2011, I realised that I needed to expand my knowledge in the technical environment to stay competitive, and thus enrolled for a part time Bachelor of Technology degree in…

At an early age, I had always been fascinated by how things work and how they are put together. It started very simply with playing with Legos and being able to put them together to form structures. It then turned into a great passion that I currently possess. This discovered skill of mine has encouraged me in the courses I have taken in high school, mainly within the math and science fields. I have always excelled in these subjects. I have decided that I am willing to use this as inspiration to pursue a career in the field of mechanical engineering. My desire for math and science has already guided a path for me through high school that I am eager to continue at the college level.…

In the society that I live in, sadly there are only two acceptable professions that one must choose from: either that of a doctor or of an engineer. Following the norms, I initially aspired to become an engineer. Neither did I have the technical aptitude nor the skill-set to prosper in the field; nevertheless, I had made my decision because that is what the ‘trend’ was! As a very predictable result of my choice, my class performance deteriorated perpetually. After a great deal of introspection, it occurred to me that I did not enjoy my chosen feel of study, as I was not passionate about it. Having realized that, I had to make a choice of either adhering to my earlier decision or to make a radical change in the existing state of affairs. It was then that my father reminded me of the words of Steve Jobs:…

"In this world, you either have an excuse or a story. I prefer to have a story" is the personal goal I have set for myself. This reinforces my belief in taking responsibility for the decisions of my life. Being the son of a scientist at DRDO, India, I have been fascinated about research and development since my early school days. I understand the importance of an accurate and precise instrument, no matter how small or big it is and also the worthlessness of the same in context of even a single human life. I achieved All India 25th rank in CIPEL Science and Mathematics Olympiad during high school life. I was awarded scholarship from my school for academic excellence and all round performance in co-curricular activities like quizzing, debating, singing et cetera from my 6th grade right up to 10th standard. I did a project on Analysis of various Indian Missiles in 8th Standard which gave me an insight into various propellant systems and thus got me interested into exploring the vast arenas of science and technology. In my senior secondary school at DAV Chandrasekharpur, I participated in a State Level Chemistry Exhibition and won the second prize. We had demonstrated manufacturing procedure of bio-diesel from used vegetable oil in a cost effective way. After passing out with 80% marks I chose Institute of Technical Education and Research, Bhubaneswar to pursue my undergraduate studies. Though I was adept in C++ programming in senior secondary level, I chose Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering as my branch of studies to gain technical prowess in one of the most budding fields of research and development. I will, any day, rate practical skills far more important than theoretical know-how. Hence, as a fresher I was an active member of the college Robotics club and the Society of Automotive Engineers. As a sophomore, I represented my university at TECHFEST 2010 (IIT Bombay) and was awarded certificate of ‘Engineering Excellence’ in…
