Statement Of Purpose: Syracuse University
As I’ve gotten older, I realize that my parents have sheltered me for majority of my life. And while I haven’t been handed things on a silver platter, I’m still quite dependent on them. However, when I started my college process, I decided that I wanted to become independent of my parents. Because of this, I began looking at schools on the east coast, specifically Syracuse University. While researching Syracuse University, I became very interested in how balanced the diversity on campus is as many students come from all over the country and have different racial backgrounds as my current school has that balance. I also began researching the student to teacher ratio as I wanted a school where I could easily reach a faculty member if necessary.

Introduction: The biological membranes are composed of phospholipid bilayers, each phospholipid with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails, and proteins. This arrangement of the proteins and lipids produces a selectively permeable membrane. Many kinds of molecules surround or are contained within cells, but water is perhaps the single most important molecule in any living system (Hayden and McNeil 2012). Since water molecules are so small, they are constantly going into and out of the cell. Osmosis is a situation where more water molecules are moving across the membrane in one direction than the other (Hayden and McNeil 2012). During osmosis the net movement of water molecules will be from a solution that has a lower osmotic concentration to a solution that has a higher osmotic concentration. When a solution has a higher concentration of solute within the cell than out, it is called hypertonic. When a solution has a lower concentration of solute within the cell than out, it is called hypotonic. And when there are equal concentrations inside and out of the cell, it is called isotonic. The relative osmotic concentration can be determined by a change in mass of the tissue.…

While attending Lewis & Clark College I will foster my passion for nature, environmental advocacy, and politics. Participating in things like the Environmental Living Learning Community will provide an engaging and enriching space to form long-lasting connections with people who share the same desire to promote environmental sustainability. Portland and the beautifully wooded campus at Lewis & Clark provide the type of natural environment that inspires my initiative for environmental advocacy. I look forward to exploring the opportunities near and within Portland, including the many hiking trails. The outdoors have been an important part of my life since childhood. Looking back, some of my happiest memories are from visiting National Parks,…

Some students believe that writing is an inborn talent: Either you have it, or you do not. They believe that some people inherit a so-called writing gene, while others do not have this "gift" and will never be able to write well. Contrary to this belief, no gene has been identified that gives some of us the ability to write well and is missing in others. It is true, however, that some people have more of a flair for writing, or a "way with words," than the rest of us.…
