Toby Mac is a Christian singer/songwriter. His song “Steal My Show” challenges the listeners to let God receive the glory for what they do, and not themselves. A Christian’s life is not all about themselves, it’s about God, so he should be the one receiving the glory not us. The message of this song is about letting God receive all the glory. Instead of Toby Mac coming straight
out and saying just that, he writes the song “inspired by the thought of four bands playing one night and one band “killing it”, thereby stealing the show” (“Steal My Show by Toby Mac”). This can be understood because the first part of the song says, “Another cold night, Another late flight, It's almost show time and Diverse City's waitin' on me, we got a packed house, The crowd is callin' out” (“Steal My Show”). These lyrics describe the atmosphere surrounding a band before they play for a big crowd. The chorus says, “If you want to steal my show, I’ll step back and watch you go, If you have something to say go on and take it away” (“Steal My Show”). I believe this part is talking about that if God wants to take your life and do great things with it, nothing should stop him because as Christians our life should be about Him, the one who gives us life, not about us. One day his son asked him how to steal a show and Toby talked about the four bands. His son then asks, “Why would you want somebody to steal your show”. Toby Mac then explains what he means by saying this, “Dad’s asking God to take his show and do something bigger. Dad’s asking God to steal his show.” (“Toby Mac”). This simply means that he is asking God to take his life and do with it something bigger then he could ever do. I chose to do Toby Mac and his song “Steal My Show” because it is one of my favorite songs, and it has a powerful message.
