Our product is the light bulb. As there are many different variations of the light bulb, we will just talk about it in general.
If a question requires us to talk about other variations, then we shall. WHAT IS YOUR PRODUCT?
The purpose of our product, the light bulb, is to provide light in the darkness.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR
PRODUCT?
The first patent filed for a light bulb was in Canada by a medical electrician in Toronto by the name of Henry Woodward and his colleague Matthew Evans on July 24, 1874. However, they failed to commercialize their product and later sold the patent to Thomas Edison in 1879. Edison later went on to create the first commercially and practically successful light bulb in the same year. Previous inventors managed to build electrical lights, but none were truly a light bulb and were not commercially successful.
WHO WAS THE ORIGINAL INVENTOR AND
WHEN WAS YOUR PRODUCT INVENTED?
The light bulb was used to light the dark before, and it still is today. It has been improved throughout the years, but its purpose has remained the same.
HOW WAS IT USED WHEN
ORIGINALLY INVENTED? HOW IS IT
USED TODAY?
•
In 1904, light bulbs began to be made with tungsten instead of carbon filaments. •
By 1908, the Edison Screw light bulb was extremely popular. This type of light bulb is commonly used today. Here is a picture:
•
In 1913, Irving Langmuir discovered that filling a light bulb with gases like nitrogen instead of vacuuming out the air doubled the light bulb's efficiency.
•
From 1926-1934, fluorescent light bulbs were researched and eventually invented. •
In 1962, the first LED (Light Emitting Diode) is created by Nick Holonyak, Jr.
•
In 1976, Edward Hammer created the spiraling fluorescent bulb, creating the first compact fluorescent lights.
