Step by wicked step
The novel that I read is “ step by wicked step” by Anne Fine. I will like to compare and contrast three characters who are Richard Clayton Harwick, Colin and Robbo. Three of them live in a stepfamily.

Firstly, I will compare about their characteristics. Among three of them, Richard shows the most different as he seems to have negatively thinking. Richard is a rebellious person as he is unable to accept Mr. Coldstone as his stepfather. He rebels against whatever the man does in his live. Although both Colin and Robbo has stepfather but they are able to compromise and accept theirs new circumstances. Colin does not kick up a fuss and he respects his mum’s decision and follows her even though he is hurting deep down inside. In the other hand, Robbo abides by their new house rules and does not go against his stepfather’s wishes. Robbo also a realistic person as he dares to speak up and make realistic assessment to resolves the problems.

Next, I will like to contrast Robbo in the way he solves his problem. Being a level-handed and thoughtful boy, he makes himself civil to his stepfather to bring peace in the house. He is also happy for his stepfather and half-brother when both of them growing close to each other. Moreover, Robbo is not influenced by Callie who tries to break up their mother and Roy, instead he tries to play along with his sister who rejoices when she sees that their mother and Roy argue. He also tries to bring their parents back together although he does not believe that they will get back together. Furthermore, when things get unpleasant between Callie and Roy, he does not instigate Callie but tries to appease her anger. Robbo behaves admirably and does not further fuel the stormy relationship between Callie and their stepfather.

After that, Colin also shows a lot of strength in his character. First of all, he is an obedient son. When his parents’ marriage does not work, his mother decides to leave and start

Richard appears to evolve from his initial condition throughout the story following the constructive reactions from his community, and close to the end, the introduction of Shawna, reaching an ostensible stability. Therefore, the main character is dynamic, he suffers a complete shift in his behavior that is clearly portrayed in the way he narrates his experiences with his friends and Shawna. Richard illustrates himself in different circumstances that give the reader different sides to his current life. He is an addict; however, he does not fulfill all the stereotypes of one, he is also browbeaten, which seems to be normal in his current life because of the way he expresses the event in which he is being robbed. Nevertheless, the reader sees him as a friend and a lover once the melioration begins. Because of this, his development as a character is round, he is battling in some of his sides as narrated during the introduction, though, he starts to find relief in some of his others. The beneficial development on Richard as the story moves forward supports the story’s…
