Please complete the following exercises, remembering that you are in an academic setting and should remain unbiased, considerate, and professional when completing this worksheet.

Part I

Select three of the identity categories below and name or describe at least 3 related stereotypes for each:

Answer each question in 50 to 100 words related to those stereotypes. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

What are the positive aspects of stereotypes, if any? I asked this question to my co-workers and we could only come up with two answers. The first answer we came up with was, trendsetting/fashion statements. Its funny how we can put people in category’s but we dress like a certain culture and that becomes popular and then the next trend starts. An example of that would be when females started to accessorize themselves with Hindu art. The second was: Southern hospitality, we feel that if someone is from the south, people are all so kind and always giving a helping hand to those that is in need. I think hurricane Katrina answered a lot of those myths. Just saying.

    I feel that there are no positive aspects due to stereotypes being unreliable generalizations about all members of a group that does not take individual differences in account.
