Stereotypes Are Just Stereotypes
Stereotypes are Just Stereotypes Do you care about your culture? Is it a major part of your life? Culture is what makes up a person’s life. Most people base their opinions on stereotypes, but culture is way more. Culture is important because most people use stereotypes, judge based upon stereotypes, and don’t actually know about the other culture/race. Great amounts of people use stereotypes and take them seriously. Society does stick to stereotypes and use them, even if they are or aren’t true. People do consider this as offensive. Some people don’t have a strong sense of humor so they could take stereotypical comments personal. Others also consider it as being ignorant. This is because people really don’t have knowledge about that

As Judith Ortiz Cofer says in her essay “mixed cultural signals have perpetuated certain stereotypes” (49). Since something can be natural in a determined culture and offensive in another, it is easy to find a variety of behaves that are misunderstood. This misunderstood is what promotes the existence of prejudice. The stereotypes should be ignored and forgotten by people. Each individual should be judge by its work and personality, and not by its clothes, physical appearance or place of origin. People should know better about distinct culture before believe in stereotypes.…

In Kate Chopin’s “The Storm,” we see a multitude of literary themes. The most important among those is her use of local color. This short story was written in the late nineteenth century at a time when women were to be seen, not heard. Chopin had a different outlook on life and it showed in her writing. Though some believe it may not have been her intention to use local color in her stories, she does. We see local color in the setting she chooses, the descriptive colors she uses, the plot of the story, and also though the narrator’s eyes.…

We all have encountered some type of stereotype or prejudices. A stereotype that I had to face was age prejudice by me being so young sometimes people don't set the high expectations for you that other people would at an older age because they expect for you to make mistakes. At times my mindset isn't where most kids are at my age. I skipped pre k and I am supposed to be in the 8th grade. When I tell people my age they be like " OMG you are young to be the grade that you are in" this is a perfect example of what I am stating that people sometimes think that you have to be average and can't go over and beyond your years.…

Many people imagine different cultures in different ways. Our predictions of cultures can be based on facts but, our generalizations can lead to confusion and misunderstanding. The mental picture people associate different cultures with can blur your concept of what that culture is truly about. There is also the problem of movies and shows that view most of an unknown culture in solely one way. They tend to generalize and group a culture into one big clump instead of just focusing on them as regular everyday people.…

I can fortunately and happily say that I personally have not experienced unequal treatment in regards to my chosen career, educational path or previously held jobs. What I do still see currently being stereotyped are gender roles and the way they are allowed or not allowed to sexually express themselves in the public eye. From my experience it is more acceptable for men to compose music about sex, be in main stream media selling sex, have successful careers in sex, and everyday unequal expectations in dating, sex and relationships. Men have more sexual freedom in the world today. Men are encouraged and in most cases applauded on the discussion of how many partners they have had in the past and the specifics of each experience, yet woman are still expected to hide their sex from the world in fear of ridicule and isolation.…

What were your perceptions of playing sport when you were younger?’ When I was younger, I typically played spot because I was younger, and I valued interaction with friends. Sport was a fun aspect of childhood, which both others and I found enjoyable and it became a chance to be with my friends, in what was then though to be a somewhat competitive environment, although it was truly not. I began to sport more seriously, when I began to play for a club, and winning started to matter, as although its focus remained on friendships and fun, its basis prepared both my teammates and myself for the growing competitive nature of sport as a teenager and adult.…

Stereotypes are inevitable; it is whether or not they’re “good” that is disputable. Society discourages people from stereotyping by giving the impression that the term “stereotype” refers only to negative assumptions, intentional acts of abuse, and is the cause of negative outcomes, but not all stereotypes are bad. Stereotypes categorize and assign characteristics in order to simplify social information. It is important to keep in mind that there are also positive stereotypes that result in positive assumptions. However, it isn’t until when the stereotype blinds people from individual differences within a class that it causes problems and/or becomes a potential danger/threat. When we are unable/unwilling to obtain all the information needed…
