Stereotypes In Gone Girl

While Gone Girl is a fantastical crime novel with fictional characters, it does have a larger application to the real world. You will never see Amy or Nick Dunne on the streets, but the issues they and the novel dealt with are problems that are present in our universe as well. Gillian Flynn illustrates some of these issues with the novel and it’s crucial that we analyze them further. A recurring topic in the book are the gender roles that both Nick and Amy take on and the treatment that they receive based on this. Both Nick and Amy suffer because of the stereotypes, but also use them to their advantage.
