In China, women usually handle bills and accounts due to the advanced math that is taught throughout the country. When Lensey arrives in America, women who are mathematically inclined are viewed as unappealing. By braving through the stigma, Lensey manages to find her passion in writing. Take a look again at high school stereotypes through the short lived television series from the late 90’s, Freaks and Geeks. Based on the pilot episode of Freaks and Geeks, media techniques are used effectively to depict the different stereotypes in high school. The camera shots & movements are used adequately to show the power of the bullies and the weakness of the victims. For example, when Sam Weir is approached by Alan (the bully), at lunch, the camera is pointed upwards towards Alan’s face to make him seem bigger and scarier while the camera would be pointed down on Sam’s face making him seem smaller and inferior to Alan (Kasdan 1999). Stereotypes In Edward O. Wilson’s The Future of Life, Wilson characterizes two different perspectives on environmentalist and the people-first critics from each others point of view. He uses multiple rhetorical devices in order to convey his message about the satirization of their languages and the unproductive natures of political discussions. Beginning with the titles of the two paragraphs which opens up a lot of analyzation towards what they mean in context to what is being written about them in the paragraphs. The first paragraph's title is “The people-first Critics stereotypes the environmentalists” Wilson uses this as the title to talk about the satirical use of stereotypes which are portrayed as untrue to what the environmentalists…

There is not one single person in this world who does not fit into a stereotype. Whether it is a mean wealthy person, a popular cheerleader, or a “large and in charge” black woman. While we in the modern century do our best to avoid these preconceived ideas about a human being’s existence, it can sometimes be too hard not to indulge in them. Literature constantly shows examples of these stereotypes. Authors often create flat or stereotypical characters to create relatability between the readers and characters. However, these traits are frequently subtle, as the authors create the character’s persona through indirect characterization. The author can create a character that we already know by just using a simple sentence through the projection of a situation, an action, dialogue, etc. By using indirect characterization, authors can feed into our perception of stereotypes.…

Canin introduces the character of the narrator by describing his classroom as “a tribute to the lofty ideals of man, which I hoped would inspire my boys, and at the same time to the fleeting nature of human accomplishment, which I hoped would temper their ambition with humility” (pp. 156–157). This description establishes the important role Hundert sees himself playing in the lives of his students. He believes that the examples of history he teaches his students will help them to become future leaders, men with great ambitions who also possess humility. Hundert’s interactions with Senator Bell reinforce Hundert’s idealistic self-perception. When Hundert meets with the senator to discuss Sedgewick’s inappropriate behavior, the senator challenges…

I awoke today with the light streaming into my room and hearing the birds chirping in the distance. As I regained my conscience, I smelled the mold and felt damp room conditions all around me that imprisoned me. It reminded me of what would have happened only in a nightmare. I wrote mainly about the problems and stereotypes in America, and that was what made it easy to write more about the essay. I focused mainly on the economics of America, and not really at all about the politics in America. I’m proud of my 3rd paragraph, where I used stats to prove a very valuable point in my essay. I think that paragraph was my most important one and I wrapped it together very well. My biggest challenge was getting started and running with a topic. Once I decided to go with the stereotypes and issues in America, the essay was much easier to write because I got the ball rolling. My interest in America might be a little less than most people, mainly because I am more interested in western european countries because I want to…
