To be honest, it seems that there are more negative impacts of stereotypes than there are of positive impacts and what it actually means to either be the cause of social problems or race and ethnicity, such as in the play The Slave by Amiri Baraka, his main focus was the Black Panther warrior who was tired of being treated as less because of his color of his skin and not being acknowledge for his intelligence and persistence in making America somewhat equal in his eyes. Or how a rooster could help symbolize what the American dream could be to a Spanish descendant family. (Sanchez-Scott, Milcha. 1988) Mentally, stereotypes could harm those that have low self-esteem and confidence that they can do the same that the majority race could do. Physically, a person will have the will to over-eat and perform poorly in situations where they feel they are being stereotyped. Even after a person leaves a situation where they faced negative stereotypes, the effects of coping with the situation remains, they are more likely to be aggressive and show more hostility than prior to the experience. (Steele, C, 1995) These lingering effects hurt people in many ways that leaves them at a disadvantage. For example, in Spinning into Butter by Rebecca Gilman, Patrick Tyler Chibas and his family recognize themselves to be Nuyorican instead of being marked down as Puerto Rican when receiving a scholarship because it is not university-recognized at the college. When told by Sarah Daniels that the only way he would get the scholarship was to put down that he was Hispanic. After writing an angry article as to how a widespread of racism is getting out of control in the administration and informs Sarah that his dad is outraged and if the college does not value his race ethnicity then he would proceed to transfer to another
