Stereotypes Of Disappointment
Although the stereotype that disappointments are only bad, there are many good things about disappointments also. Disappointments can be positive experiences for you too. Though disappointments may appear pessimistic, disappointments can also have a good outcome. First disappointment can be good. For example of how disappointment can have a good reaction is if you lose a football game but play the opponent team again you can learn their strategies. If you learn the opposing team's strategies you can use their strategies against them. When you learn their strategies then you can learn the weaknesses and win the game. The disappointment may be hard to overcome, but in the end it the disappointment can be good. Second disappointment can have a good reaction because after you lose a game you probably won’t be as presumptuous. If you lost the football game before then you probably aren’t as positive about winning. When you aren’t as positive you are usually more cautious about how you play the game and this can help you win the game. Disappointment is always saddening but if you play the …show more content…

So disappointment can have a good outcome for many reasons even though you may think you would feel better if you had won, if you had won you would never learn how to deal with disappointment and that is another good characteristic of disappointment. When you never feel disappointment you never learn what actual hard work is either, you don’t try harder, because you think you can always win and so you think you don’t need practice. Though on the other hand winning feels overjoying, you need to learn disappointment because it can make you try harder and it can make you a better athlete. Although some people think otherwise I believe it can have both good and bad

It is common to appreciate how people become pessimist and often depressive when adversity meet their lives. According to Seery (2011) “…some theory and empirical evidence suggest that the experience of facing difficulties can also promote benefits in the form of greater propensity for resilience when dealing with subsequent stressful situations.” (p. 390)…

Optimism may be harmful when an individual only focuses on the “bright side” of life ignoring negatives or “realities” one can be taken off guard by unhappy moments in life. In Optimism and Physical Health, there was a study conducted to find out the relationship between optimism and physical health outcomes. According to their findings, the data suggests that optimism is a significant predictor of physical health. I would have to agree with this study and I find it validating. One thing that I found interesting in the article was the significance of pessimism and physical health. We learned from the study that optimism can have a positive effect on physical health but we also learn that pessimism can have a negative effect on physical health. According to the article Optimism and Physical health, “It may well be the case that it is the presence or absence of pessimism that is important in determining physical health outcomes rather than the presence or absence of optimism”(p.247). What this is telling me is that having the presence of pessimism can have a more negative effect on physical health rather than the positive effect optimism has on physical health. To summarize, “In general, it is clear from this review that optimism is related to physical health. It is also clear that the link between optimism and health is stronger for subjective health outcomes than for objective health outcomes” (p. 248). This study really shows this information and it can be said that for future…

Failure is something no one likes. I have learned over the years that failure is perceived as a bad thing. No one ever told me failure could be taken as a good thing. That was until I read a story in This I Believe II. The author explained why he liked failure and why failure could be a good thing. Forgiveness is something everyone should learn. Many people in our lives may do wrong to us and if we hold on to the hurt and anger we will never find happiness. I was one of those people who could hold a grudge forever, and then I realized that being happy was more important to me so I learned forgiveness (mainly with a little help). When I read a story in This I Believe II I realized the author had a life very similar to mine. It help me appreciate learning forgiveness.…

Positive emotions are healthy for us, both physically and mentally. Negative emotions that we may be having can be offset by positive emotions such as cheerfulness, joy and contentment. Positive emotions have effects that last longer than the effects of negative emotions. Certain positive emotions, such as joy, may lead to other positive emotions, which may lead to physical activity, creativity, and intellectual stimulation. Experiencing positive emotions result in improvement of our emotional well-being. When I am feeling happy and cheerful, I always get energized. I want to go for a walk or break out the camera and see what creative images I can capture. Feeling happy broadens my outlook on life.…

"The Futile Pursuit of Happiness" by Jon Gertner was published in September of 2003. It is an essay that discusses the difference between how happy we believe we will be with a particular outcome or decision, and how happy we actually are with the outcome. The essay is based on experiments done by two professors: Daniel Gilbert and George Loewenstein. The experiments show that humans are never as happy as we think we will be with an outcome because affective forecasting and miswanting cause false excitement and disappointment in our search for true happiness.…

Everyday people strive for perfection, but the truth is that no one will ever achieve it. Within every task, challenge or achievement, failure is present. Most fear the possibility of failure because weaknesses are brought out and people feel vulnerable. On the other hand I witnessed a learning aspect from failure, and have a new understanding of it. Varsity football was where I faced a large amount of failure, but in turn learned many lessons.…
