Their athleticism shows how much these female athletes put in. Whether it’s in a gym, field, or track, girls know how to strive towards hard work. People see these girls dress in sweats, sweatshirts, running shoes, yogas, and caps on a daily basis. This is why female athletes get categorized everyday by peers. Just because they are apart of the “jock” clique, people automatically assume certain things towards these athletes. Female athletes often get taken as “tomboys” simply because of the laziness when deciding what to wear to school on a daily basis. For example, basketball players wear long shorts for both practice and games. When wearing the shorts during a game, no one seems to say anything. There are many girls who dress in sports attire almost everyday, that also have a girly side to them. I can also relate to the stereotype of people saying female sports aren’t as competitive as male sports. When playing a sport, athletes do whatever they can to put in as much effort possible. Diving for loose balls, fighting for the ball, and sprinting to get back on defense isn’t easy for many people. It takes desire, heart, and hustle. This is why female sports are very competitive in high school. It’s not just a game for these girls, it’s a
