What are the positive aspects of stereotypes, if any?
I personally do not think there are many positive aspects of stereotypes, but what comes to mind would be like the stereo type that Asians are good at math. I can see how that could be helpful in some way if an Asian person was interviewing for a finance position and the employer sees the resume and makes that generalization.
What are the negative aspects of stereotypes?

I know that African American and Mexican American deal with this very frequently and especially in the inner cities. They are more likely to get profiled by law enforcement than most other races or ethnic groups. Another example would be Arabs at the airport during security checks. I think they also are more likely to be profiled ever since the incidents of September 11, 2001.
