Steve Jobs Commencement Address At Stanford University
The meaning of life has been a very broad topic that comes up in our everyday lives. Life is something that is to be cherished. Like anything valuable in our lives, one must work to make this life the best it could be. In his Commencement Address at Stanford University, Steve Jobs explains what he believes what the value of life is to him. He speaks of the day he found that he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which was first known as incurable. Doctors had told him to get his affairs in order in other words prepare family and friends for death. This was a very intellectual topic for Steve as well for his value of life had changed forever. A quote that stands out is how Jobs states “ Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” This quote basically shows to follow your heart no matter the circumstances. An example of someone who can relate to Jobs situation is Ben Stiller. He had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. In October of 2016, he had been declared cancer-free. The views of Stiller can be …show more content…
It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.” Many people simply do not praise death like Jobs did in that quote. However many people may believe that you should live your life to the fullest as if you are going to die at any moment. This quote simply shows his main point of his speech by him not knowing there was a cure for cancer, he was ready to act solely upon his heart and had no intentions in anything else. This is the key point as to what he is trying to get across to the public. I do agree with Jobs in living your life doing what you want to do and having great experiences with family and friends to share with. Living life in a shell is not what he wants for himself and for

Myles Munroe believes that, “The value of life is not in its duration, but in its donation. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important because of how effective you live.” People in the world have their own view on life, but as Munroe states, it’s not about how long a person lives but the effectiveness of what they have done with their life because it affects how the future generations will turn out. Throughout time and space, people have debated about what the purpose of life is and why do people have the opportunity to experience it. People like William Shakespeare, Robert Ebert, and Amanda Ripley all have their own appointing views on life but they all relate to each other in many different ways.…

My dad has been working for this union for roughly eleven years. Although he is a member of the Sheet Metal Workers, the union itself has made a huge impact on our lives.…

    2. "Love" What You Do -- Another platitude, but he spoke about this in a passionate way. He discouraged the audience from joining or switching to a hot "industry" or from going into consulting in favor of getting involved with an industry you love (antiques, baseball, marketing), even if that industry is not currently doing well as a whole. His message was that you will perform so well in your imperfect industry that you will rise above the rest and end up being a star in the top 1% of that industries, but if you joined an industry you weren't passionate about, you'd end up in the 50th percentile of earners in that industry. He thought the pay in the top 1% of a crappy industry (in a job you love) would top the 50th percentile in a hot industry…

In "You've got to find what you love," Steve Jobs in his Commencement speech to Stanford students teaches them through life stories the life lessons he has learned, sometimes the hard way. Jobs through his speech appealed to pathos and used this emotional speech to convince college students to do what you love and follow your passion. Jobs teaches these lessons by telling three stories from his life. The first story tells about his time in college when he dropped out and began to drop in on classes that interested him and how these courses and following his “curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on” (Jobs). His second story focuses on the time in his life when he was publicly fired from Apple, and after a short time away…

Growing up, children are taught from a young age to work hard in school in order to go to college and eventually get a job that can provide for them and their families for the rest of their lives; a problem with this is that they are never told to pick something that they are absolutely in love with which can mean the difference between a happy and an unhappy life. In 2005, Steve Jobs gave a speech preaching that no matter what people do in life they should always go after what they love in order to live happily and to the fullest. His speech although had much praise, also had who disagreed by saying that just because someone has the passion and love for something does not mean that it can provide the proper income that is necessary to survive.…

Steve Jobs, the late founder of Apple and Pixar, could captivate an audience when he spoke; his address to the graduates of Stanford’s 2005 class was no different. Jobs’s commencement address covered concepts ranging from love, to fate, to death, all of which were conveyed through three stories. The three stories’ overarching topic was that of happily living life by your own playbook. Jobs’s first allegory talked about fate and how everything happens for a reason; the second dealt with doing what you love in life. Jobs’s concluding story is about death and how it should not only direct your life, but can make it easier too. The purpose of Steve Jobs’s address, specifically the concepts of fate, love and death, is to inform the graduates how to live a happy life. A happy life is sought by everyone, and Steve Jobs’s commencement address provides a template for a happy life and how he attained it through the concepts fate, love and death.…

Maybe life is just a period of time that we exist in this world. Even though we have to enjoy it purposely, not just living as the robots wait until the day we run out of energy. Some of us find ourselves strong, some of us think that ourselves as weak as we used to be but in fact none of us is weak, nor strong. The difference between us that is having our own different purpose in life. Some of us might have an easy purpose to achieve, some of us might have a tough one to accomplish it. However, there are also some of us might do not have any purposes in life such as Anne Sexton. A beautiful young lady who lost her life’s purpose and adrift her life to the end. “Wanting To Die”, the poem published by Anne Sexton has let us see a purposeless…
